There seems to be a problem with this model. I would advise you to request a replacement, or find a different router. Most of the problems with this specific model is that it disconnects suddenly. This is the log from someone on the internet using the same router: Sun, 2009-07-19 08:10:25 - LCP down. Sun, 2009-07-19 08:10:29 - Initialize LCP. Sun, 2009-07-19 08:10:29 - LCP is allowed to come up. Sun, 2009-07-19 08:10:33 - CHAP authentication success Sun, 2009-07-19 08:10:58 - LCP down. Sun, 2009-07-19 08:10:59 - Initialize LCP. Sun, 2009-07-19 08:10:59 - LCP is allowed to come up. Sun, 2009-07-19 08:11:03 - CHAP authentication successYes this is somewhat old, yet same brand and model. Yet it seems that there hasn't been any improvements made to the model itself.

Router set up
Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

DGN2000 router problem. I have 2 pc connected on the router and only the main one has access to the internet. Am i doing something wrong with the settings or does my router has a problem? Is it true that...

I'm not aware of any problem with the DGN2000 that only lets you connect 1 computer (If it was I dont think they would sell many and EVERYBODY would know about it)

Anyway - try swapping the network leads over (remember which port is the "live" one) does the other PC now have internet access and the 1st one not?

if the 2nd pc DOES have internet access the yes you have a suspect router.
if the 1st computer DOESN'T have Internet access you have suspect router.

if the 2nd pc DOESN't have internet access but the 1st pc DOES - then the problem is something on the 2nd pc.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried to reset router. It has to be done in order.
1. unplug router
2. unplug modem
3. shut down computer and restart after waiting 1 min
4. after restarting computer plug power back into modem and wait for all the lights to start blinking
5. after the modem is working plug power back to router and plug in the computer with ethernet cable and make sure you have internet,
6. try to link up with wireless,
If this does not work you will have to setup the router for wireless if it is att wireless you will have to call them to give you the password to set it up.

Followed all the set up steps but my DSL light would not stay on

  • 1 Plug the Ethernet cable into the Internet port on your wall. If you do not have Internet ports installed in your home, connect a phone line adapter to a phone line jack. The adapter makes the phone line wider so Ethernet cables can connect to it. This does not block your phone from use.
  • 2 Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the back side of the Netgear DSL modem.
  • 3 Connect the Netgear DSL modem to a local power source. The power plug inserts into the modem via a small port on the rear of the modem.
  • 4 Insert a second Ethernet cable into one of the numbered ports on the back of the modem. Run the cable to your computer and plug it into the Ethernet port on the computer.
  • 5 Look on the back end of the DSL modem for an HTTP: address. Type this into your Internet browser's search bar. The Netgear DSL modem menu appears on the screen.
  • 6 Select how many computers are to use the modem, if you are using it with other DSL modems and set up a password (the default username and password is "admin"). Click "OK" to initiate the changes you made to the menu. You can now use your Netgear DSL modem to connect to the Internet.

How to connect netgear fs108 to cable modem

leeb..... switches cannot be connected to the Cable modem.... because NAT will not be enabled in cable modem....so there wont be any DHCP server present in the cable modem....
Nat will be enabled only in DSL modem like AT&T verizon etc....So DHCP server will be present inside DSL modem...that is the reason why switches can be connected only to the DSL modem....
With NAT enabled modem, switch will work as a switch.... With NAT disabled modem, switch will work as a hub.... This is the difference....
Any doubts further ? please clarify with me.... I am ready to help you....

Installation of netgear dgn2000 wireless router on vista.

I understand that you are facing trouble with the installation of the router as the CD does not work. Please perform the below steps to install the router without using CD:

    1. Connect the cable/phone line coming from Internet Service Provider to the WAN port of the router(isolated port).
    2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports.
    3. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
    4. Access the router, usually by typing 'http://192.168.0.1' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
    5. Login to the router (username = admin password = password unless you have changed it).
    6. Click 'setup wizard'(at the top of list) from left menu.
    7. Select yes and click next.
    8. It should give you a "PPPoA Detected" and then click next.
    9. Enter the login and password of ISP click apply.
    10. Once the settings are updated click on 'router Status' and click on 'connection status' button(at the bottom of the page).
    11. Click on connect button.
    12. Connecting to server should show 'connected'.
    13. If you receive 'CHAP authentication failed', close the 'connection status' window and click on 'Basic settings'. Check the login and password for ISP and apply the setting again.
    14. Open up another browser window and try to access internet.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Sounds like a configuration issue. With some routers you can set them up for bridging. Normally port 1 would connect your "bridge" and port 2-4 would connect your computers. You can test this by plugging your modem into port 1, and your computer in port 2. Power cycle your router and see if you get connectivity. It may be in your best benefit to reset the router to factory settings and see if 2-4 work with factory settings. After the reset, reconfigure the wireless side and your firewall.
