Question about Eureka Smartvac 4870 Bagged Upright Vacuum

Changing the belt

I have a Eureka "The Boss" SmartVac. I took the bottom cover off to replace the belt. There is no way to get a belt around the drive shaft; there is no gap between the end of the shaft and the side of the vacuum in which to slide the belt. Does the shaft telescope somehow to allow you to get the belt around it? The last time the belt broke, I had a friend take the vacuum apart in many pieces to get the belt around the shaft. I cannot believe you have to go through 45 minutes of disassembly to get a belt on. The instructions say to simply take 3 screws off the bottom plate, take the bottom plate off, and then put the belt on. I'm stumped.

I have the same problem and no, removing the brush makes no difference, as the belt is wrapped around the motor drive. I will relent and call  the  Customer Service number tomorrow if I can't find any other assistance.

Following the exact instructions, I have everything reassembled, but the roller won't re-engage. It just clicks back to the bare floor setting.

I couldn't figure out how to change the belt on my Eureka Boss, so I had my husband look at it since he has more time. So he got his buddy involved and after a couple hours of ramming and banging - well ... some husbands are good at some things.

Just in case you're still having this problem.... you don't need to fit the belt around the motor shaft. Only wrap it around the brush roller and the piece near the back that you are able to put the belt around, and snap the brush back into place. It didn't look like it would work (it looked like my cat could have done the same thing and gotten the same result) but it works gloriously now!

Hope this helps.

Have you pulled the roller out? Once you take the bottom plate off, the roller should slide out of its slot. Then you should easily be able to access the motor shaft.

My Eureka The boss Smartvac Model #4870 roller brush won't turn even on the highest setting and the belt smells hot. we took the belt off. How can you tell if it needs replaced?

Just by what you explained I can tell that it needs to be replaced. The belt doesn't have to be broken to need replacing, if it is stretched and worn then it will slip on the motor shaft and not turn the brush roll and get hot. Eureka the Boss SmartVac just turned off and won't turn on

Make sure it is not the electrical outlet that has tripped. If not then you basically have 3 choices. Cord, switch, motor. A service tech. should be able to diagnose.

Eureka the Boss Smart Vac. Hose has suction, but still isn't picking up. Weird.

Your belt is probably broken. Check your belt and make sure your brushroll has not seized. If both of those check out ok, (because the smartvac belt doesn't stretch,) the belt tensioner assembly may have gone bad.
