Got a wee query-got a dell laptop inspiron 6000 I've had for a fewyears now.Last night was on it when the battery ran down,so plugged itin.Ever since the battery/power icon flashes orange 4 times thenreverts to green,doing this continuously,unless I take the battery outand use ac power.Does this mean the battery is goosed?

Since you said the battery is not charging, why don't you remove the battery and charge directly to see if your laptop adapter will charge your laptop. Because i for see your laptop adapter been bad that is why it is not charging your laptop.
If it did not, it means your laptop adapter is bad and will need to be replace in order to charge your laptop.
Just change the adapter as advice and your laptop will charge.

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty. If not, Try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty. If not, Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.
Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.

You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
