Question about Gigabyte 7VM400M-RZ (GA-7VM400M-RZ) Motherboard

1 Answer

Hello Sir, When SMPS for motherboard burnt, all LEDs of Keyboard and CPU were constantly glown but system switched off. PC not getting on even after replacement of SMPS. When checked input power supply, neutral to earth voltage found 30V. Also without switching on through CPU on/off switch, and giving input to SMPS, SMPS fan is not working and ITE make IT8705F IC (near to BIOS_WP IC) is getting very hot. Please suggest me the solution. Also I have digital multimeter so please guide me to troubleshoot the problem in detail at home. Also I live in India, so I have checked it at the shop and the cost is about Rs 1000 for repairs (if repairable). The processor is AMD athlon. So suggest me the economical alternative instead of repairs, if available. Thanks

Get a good used mo bo on ebay to replace the one you have.
Make sure you get the exact replacement and it will go right in and you will not have any hassles with compatibility/driver issues.

Lot cheaper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: No Beep No Display

Hi you need to check the Processor and the power distribution logic on your motherboard . Check the processor on another mobo if possible to ensure its working . Next check the Voltage regulators around the power connector and the ports if you have a multimeter , look for 3.3 volts ,5 volts and 12 volts . Check if any of the electrolytic capacitors have short circuit . If you find any of the capacitors bulging desolder them and power-up the mobo .

SOURCE: System wouldn't power up and when i replaced the

You've probably reset the bios, so we won't belabor the point. Sounds like the motherboard is toast. You replaced the power supply, and that was probably the culprit, but it took out the MB as well.

A 478 board is older, but you should be able to eBay one with similar specs.

I need info about what the cpu phase leds on aN msi 990fxagd65 mean

They indicate the number of different power phases that the CPU is currently using. In order to save power the motherboard is able to reduce the voltage to (and performance of) the CPU. In 2 phase mode (2 LEDs) it basically switches between high performance, and low performance. 4 LEDs means that there are two additional intervals in between the high and low power settings. 6 LEDs indicate six total phases, etc.
I believe that there is a greater possibility of system instability as you increase the number of phases that the motherboard switches through.

Couple of items to try. First disconnect everything except the power and the CPU. Does it give you a beep code?

If not your either have a bad power supply, motherboard, or cpu. (Only if everything else is disconnected.)

Second, If you did get the beep code then put the memory in and see if the system starts to boot. (Try without the screen connected first. If it acts like is going to start turn it off, plug in the mouse, keyboard, and monitor and try again.) ** I have seen where an add on video card would keep the computer from starting so try with the on board video first.**

Third, start adding one extra piece at a time starting with the hard drive.

Let me know if this helps or not.

remove all the ram from motherboard and switch on the system and see it is working or not like just on and fan are rotating and the smps fan is also working and your system is giving beep sound for ram.try with other smps also some time problem with power supply also. Remove the connector of power switch and restart switch and directly try to on from shorting the connector with the help of pen or screw driver point. Some time faulty switch also give problem. Just try all these possibilities.

Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks.

Power supply works but pc doesn't power up no lights and fans dont work

Have you checked the power supply in different system? If yes then first replace CMOS battery and switch the CMOS battery jumper. And while doing this please unplug the hard disk or optical drive data cables and power. If it does not work then check the power switch is working or not or it is perfectly connected with the front panel PINS on the motherboard. If it is not connected perfectly computer will not start after pressing power button.
Second Level Test : Remove the CPU Fan - replace the CPU perfectly - again place the Fan.

Third Level (motherboard test): Just take the motherboard removing CPU,RAM, SMPS - use another same type CPU, RAM and SMPS - if it does not work so it is motherboard problem. If it works may be CPU problem.
