Howdy. When the DVD portion of a home theater setup fails it is usually simply not cost effective to have it repaired. An inexpensive solution is to buy a DVD player or recorder and stack it on the old one. This costs from 40 to 90 dollars and has you back in your seat the fastest.

yes.modern TVs have good speakers, and the bravia has a good set, with adjustable sound fields, plus a decent amp in them.just use good cables, and use component video cables,or HDMI if yr DVD has it.most have 1080 video resolution nowadays

Philips HTS3450, sound cutting on and off during DVD playback?

If the Video portion of the DVD is running smoothly and the audio is cutting out, you've got an internal problem. You can try running a Laser Lens cleaner thru it, you can get them at just about any retail store, get one that uses fluid, 15-20. Good maintanance habit, run it thru a couple times then try a DVD. If it still has an issue, it's more cost effective to replace it than repair it, a repair would run 100-150 on average. Hope this helps

HTS3450 from Phillips, have video but no audio

I have been quite involved with a sound problem in my HTS3450 (search for the topic "sound in only 3 channels"), and I learned that when you are in the setup menu the speaker volume will be greyed out if there is a disc in the tray...remove the disc, wait for the "disc loading" dialogue to switch to "no disc", the try accessing the setup menu again. Other than that I have no advise if you once had proper function after moving the system. Check out my experiences with the cable connecting the sub to the DVD/receiver in my postings. Good luck. Philips hts 3450 home theatre system, dvd in player, won't come

Before you do what I am about to suggest, understand that doing so will void your warranty with Philips. Find out if the product is still in warranty before proceeding - if it IS in warranty, then get it replaced through Philips (even though it is a simple solution):

Unscrew the four main screws on the bottom of the main base that are keeping the main unit together. Open up the case, retrieve the disc. Make sure that you do not knock ANYTHING out of place - you must proceed VERY carefully. Rescrew the case. Voila!

Region free

Sorry - every Philips model has a region it was marketed for, and dvd's from other regions will not work without an illegal hack (if one exists).
