Question about Sony Hi8 Hi-8 Tape

Reinsert cassette when I insert a tape, the screen flashes "reinsert cassette". So I guess the camera has a problem recognizing the tape. What might be wrong? Thanks. That really works thumbs up

Re-inserting in and out will temporarily make it work. switch contacts are bad and has to be serviced, cleaned otherwise replaced.

How do you insert a video 8 cassette into the vhs cassette adaptor.

There's no way! They are two vastly different systems.
Video8 tape is nearly 1/4 inch wide whereas VHS tape is 1/2 inch wide - and thats just the begining!
Electronically, everything about them is different which is why Video8 came out from Sony in 1985 to improve on VHS systems and camcorder quality.
The higher quality version Hi8 followed in 1990 which made it's way into the professional market too.
I used the both formats for TV news and other programmes 1989-2000 when I went over to DVCAM, a professional compact cassette system also from Sony so I know the 8mm systems inside out.

My sony hi8 Handycam TRV 138 gives me a message reinsert tape What is wrong? do it need repair

The cassette is not being detected when the tray is landing. If the head is not spinning but you are getting the cassette ejected then it is a malfunction of the loading mechanism. Even if the tape end detection optocouplers are defective the fault could be so.If you can check this out then try and test the voltage before and after the cassette loads. there should be a change if not replace. check on the loading mechanism too. Hope this helps. Good day

That may be what you will have to do, in this case, unless you can somehow get that switch to work. I don't understand why the motor continues to run, but it's probably a broken plastic piece or other gear part that's not functioning. When you take the cassette apart, try to look for any broken parts, or loose components that you can reseat. You may have to end up buying another adapter. Wish I knew more to tell you, but that's all I can think of.

I have a broken VHS cassette.

You can remove the 4 or 5 screws at the bottom of the tape, turn the tape over CAREFULLY pull the top off. If the tape pulled out of the end of 1 spool, you have to remove the clip in the tape hub, reinsert the tape and snap the clip back in. Holding the tape door open so as not to catch tape, put top back on and replace screws. Hope this helps.

Mini cassette tape is wrapped around one spool inside the casette

1). Remove the five screws from top half of cassette shell. If the cassette shell halves are glued together, very carefully split the shell with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Maneuver the screwdriver around the shell to break its seal. Avoid getting cut or damaging internal components of cassette.
2).Carefully lift off the top half of the cassette shell.
3). Pull the head if the tape from the left reel.
4). cut-off the damaged edge, and attached a peice of sctoth tape to the shining side of the tape, and leave about 1/2 inches of scotch tape beyond the head of the recording tape.
5). trim the sctoch tape using single edge of the sctoch tape razor or X-Acto knife to the same width as the recording tape.
6). carefully insert and tape the head of the recording tape to the right reel. and manually wind the tape till the recoding tape is flat to the front of the recoding pad.
7). carefully close the top shell, make sure not to pinch the tape. use your finguer trun the right reel, make sure the tape winds freely.
8). secured the top with screws.
