Question about Ruud UAKA037 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

The outside compressor and fan will not shut off. I have turned the thermostat system to Off and even to heat, but it will not stop. I went on a trip, increased the room temp to 80 on the thermostat and left. When we returned 2 1/2 days later, the coils were frozen and no air was comiing through the vents, even with the blower motor working. So I turned the unit to furnace and melted the ice on the coils, but had to pull the fuses on the outside box to get the compressor to shut off. Is there a reset button that could solve the problem or some other action required? Not sure of the model # - it is a Rheem RC8A

Sounds like the contactor is stuck. That's why nothing will stop the fan and compressor except killing the power to it. You should be able to get one fairly cheap.

2002 4 ton Bryant air conditioner shuts off, fan still runs but not cooling is problem in the controls in the attic or in the AC unit or both?

With a non heat pump it is a simple 24 volt AC control circuit. In the attic there is a relay that is actuated via the fan control wire directly from the thermostat. On the thermostat there is an auto/man switch that controls the fan. Manual the fan runs all the time. Auto fan turns on and off with the outside compressor.

If the system is not calling for cool and the fan continues to run the fan relay is sticking. common problem. Sometimes after running for several days the relay will stop sticking if not, replace relay.

If the system is calling for cool and the compressor stops I would still expect the fan to run until thermostat tells the A/C to off. Some compressor units include a safety switch or high-pressure cut-out switch A blocked internal valve bad control board or external fan in outside unit defective no air flow in outside unit.
High pressure cut out not good,

Suggest turning temp max cool and observe. If acceptable cool and the compressor runs without interruption all is good, except for the blower in the attic. Safely check relay in attic blower circuit.

Hope this helps.

Intertherm MGHA-070ABFC-05 will not run/cool

Multiple problems. Eliminate thermostat first. Remove face from wall and turn on breaker. If fan still runs you have a bad board or bad relay. If fan outside is running compressor should be too. These operate on same contactor. Verify you are getting 24 volts to coil side of contactor. If odf stops working and contactor remains pulled in you have a bad motor. If odf motor stops working the compressor will shut off due to overheating.

Hello
Sounds like the condensor fan motor is going bad.If the fan stops turning or is not turning at full speed, the compressor can not give off heat to the condensor.Which will cause it to shut down on high heat.

So i would start with a new fan motor.Your local heating and cooling supply house should have these in stock.

I turn on the Central A/C unit with the thermostat. The attic fan unit goes on and the system cools the house. When the system shuts down the fan unit shuts off but the outside compressor keeps running....

could be a thermostat problem but even more likely the contactor on the unit outside is stuck. In order to change this part you will have to get in to the outdoor unit. The contactor is the automatic switch that the thermostat energizes when the thermostat calls for aircond. The location of the contactor is in the outdoor unit (electrical section) and where the power will tie in to the unit. It is a little box looking part with terminals where most of the wiring connects. If the contacts are welded together the outside unit will not shut off. If you tempt to replace this part, make a diagram of all the wires connected to it before you take any of them off. Turn off all power to the outdoor unit before inspecting.

Heatpump r-22 rudd system, unit runs starts out heating then compressor stops in middle of heating ,this unit has a out side air temp. sensor just wondering if possible bad board or not

If compressor stops in middle, check the following.
1.Thermostat setting must be minimum +3 degree than your room temp
2. Check it's in heat "mode"
3. Check indoor and outdoor coils are clean.
4. Check fan motor is working alright.
5. Outside sensor and room air sensor is placed correctly.
6. Gas pressure is o.k
7.Check compressor is overheated, even all the above is o.k.

LG PTAC acting strange in heat mode

I believe the problem in lies in the dual stage heat mode setup on the thermostat, but the unit going into defrost does make the unit act kinda strange. Even more so than other types of equipment. I would suggest hiring a licensed HVAC service technician if the problem cannot be resolved by yourself.

Inside blower not starting every time

That's a weird problem. I wonder if the outside compressor is drawing down the voltage in the breaker box enuff to keep the blower from starting up. If you're set to cool but the thermostat is NOT calling for the AC, can you manually turn the blower on fathfully? If so, I would check all wiring connections in the breaker box to make sure they are tight and free from tarnish or corrosion. You may even need to contact your power company and have a higher amperage line installed outside. Do your house lights blink noticably when the compressor kicks on?

While you're resolving this, you could start the blower manually and just leave it on. The compressor cycling on/off shouldn't stop the blower once it's running and it won't draw much current... couple bucks a month maybe.

Hope that helps...
