Question about Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 Video Card Graphic Card
It can play 1080p movies but it wont play them at 1080p as it does not have the ability to output at that format. And 1080p movies even tho it may play them they may be choppy or laggy cause its just to high of a resolution for a agp fx5500 to play. 1080p is a resolution not a format and it would have to be outputted to a 1080p compatible screen or tv. I think the highest it can do even hooked up to dvi is 480p. But i cant confirm this with the information on nvidias website as this card was made a little before they started doing hi def resolutions.

Tips for a great answer:
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
if this fails to fix the problem
It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it
