make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might bebad/faulty orthe drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus programyou might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard oryou might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall hope this helps
Cd's use a different file structure that dvd's. Dvd's use udf and cd's use cdfs. Try cleaning the drive with a cleaning cd and downloading the latest drivers for the drive from the NEC website for the easiest fix.
Could be it does not like the brand of dvd discs, if they are dvd burnt discs. You need to be more specific, is it reading any dvds at all??? If it has no issues with cds, it may not be the driver, but if it is playing up, it would not hurt to try unistalling it and reinstalling also with an updated driver. good luck lilacgerry xxx
There are 2 lasers, one for CD and one for DVD. Most likely, your DVD laser is not working right. The new firmware update only supported more media:

DVD burners are cheap now a days (I just got a DVD lightscribe burner for $40 at CompUSA...Who is also going out of business)
