No sound when dvd plays - Yamakawa DVD-238 DVD Player

dvd player has worked fine for years but suddenly i don't have sound anymore. sound works perfectly when watching TV, video on dvds is fine too. the cable to connect the dvd player to the TV uses a single plug on each end (ie audio and viedo in one) and is definitely connected securely. i have tried multiple dvds. also, i've never messed with the dvd player menu/setup so there's no way something could've gotten toggled off accidentally.

No sound. There is a picture, but no sound.

I have no sound... video is fine.  The problem is intermittent, though.  Sometimes works perfectly.  Next time I turn it on... no sound.  It happens on DVDs I've already watched and worked fine.  I haven't changed any settings, connections, etc.  Very frustrating... can't figure out the trick to get the sound back on command.  I just keep turning it off and on until it works, or I give up and read a book... blah!  Help?

Having the same problem, only turning it on and off doesnt work, and there is no option for audio other than PCM or Bitstream. No output option etc. Last month I bought both Samsung DVD player and LCD TV. Both ****, have had issues with both, and Samsung is the WORST company I have ever dealt with. They have; lied, passed the buck onto other people, tried thier hardest not to uphold warranty, said they would contact me and didnt, just to get me off the phone and I have ended up paying for service on a TV and DVD player less than a month old. My suggestion.. throw away all of your Samsung products, take the loss and NEVER buy another Samsung product again!!!!

I have checked all the connections. It was working this morning... suddenly this afternoon, no sound, picture is fine. I've checked using several dvds on my other player and it is fine. Is it dead? I have Avion with no picture and a Panasonic that we lost the remote for so no longer can add or change subtitles. Help is appreciated.

mcdevito75 here, It may be the sound track on the DVD itself, try another DVD and see how the sound is. If the sound is OK without any DVD being played you simply have to adjust the sound while playing DVD"s either at the speakers or with the volume control on your key board.

No sound while playing a dvd jvc8040b receiver

Make sure the the necessary input of the tv is select to be able to play the sound from your DVD. Also check to make sure you are pluging in the sound cords into the input sound of the tv and not the output. Make sure the source of the tv that you selected to play the DVD through has a sound jack associated with it.

Aspire one running cyberlink 8.0 plays dvd, but

Verify your DVD player and Sound card is listed without errors in device manager. If there are no errors, try to play the dvd with another program such as windows media player just to try and narrow down the possibilities

DVD player and receiver will not play a dvd in surround sound ?

The dvd player is responsible for reading the surround sound track, and sending it to the receiver. First make sure you are playing the surround sound track on the dvd, many have a stereo track too. Next, try another dvd and see if you can play surround sound on that one. If you can't play surround on ANY dvd I would start looking at the audio connection from dvd to receiver. Are you using an optical cable? Red, white, and yellow RCA cables? Optical will transmit any sound over only one cable, RCA cables need one cable for each channel (LF, C, RF, LR, RR, sub.) If your connections are correct, is the receiver set to play a surround sound track? Is it set in 2 channel mode?

Check to make sure your sound settings in control panel are not: on mute or set to the minimum levels. Does sound work for everything else but your dvd player???

DVD+-RW plays DVD video without sound

if you did not install the wires to the motherboard ( a small set of wires- I think it's 4-pin) it will not play the sound- ( that's if it requires that wire)
you can also uninstall it in device manager, restart and let windows re-install it again because software may have overwritten some important files-

finally the software that plays the dvd may be buggy in that it mutes the sound- check the toggle (it may be on mute on the screen) I always uninstall it and use interactual dvd player that comes with universal dvd's ( like the Bourne moveis next to me right now)

for stand alone software- I prefer Nero as Roxio overwrites everything- Nero is friendly- playing dvd's , burning etc...

Hope it works for you
