Question about LG RU-44SZ51D 44" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Hello, I have an issue with my TV, it keeps turning itself off and when I turn it back on, it makes a whirring sound for a minute or so and then sometimes comes back on but a lot of the time, it switches itself off again. I even bought a new lamp for it as I thought that was the problem, but it still says 'replace the lamp' in the bottom right hand corner. Please could you let me know what I'm dealing with? If I need a spare part and it's easily fixed or if my TV is really and truly dead?! Yours sincerely Kyri Christodoulou

Sounds like the color wheel or fan is causing the squealing and shutdown. Color wheel is the most likely of the two.

My humax pvr 9300t is affecting my programmes and switching itself on and off every few minutes

Try switching it off at the mains for a few minutes.

If that doesn't fix it, I suspect that the disk is faulty or corrupted.

Samsung HLS5086WX/XAA made popping noise and shut off, then made whirring noise.

When my TV did this in the past it ended up being the color wheel. I had someone replace it and it worked fine. I asked it if had to be calibrated after it is installed and he said no. Also make sure the door switch is pushed down when you install the back bulb door. Sometimes this switch can go bad as well.

Hello mrdavidmetca,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

I would start by pulling the batteries from the remote control. Manually turn the TV off and then back on, manually. If the issue resolves, replace the remote.
If the issue continues; you will need to find a local TV Repair Shop and have the Tuner Board replaced.

Have a great day!

Check and make sure your fans are working and there is sufficiant cooling to the back of the set. Sounds like it is overheating and going into protection mode.

It is quite likely that the lamp is defective. The whirring sound is possibly the fan doing its cool down cycle. If the lamp has failed, it is likely that you may need a ballast unit as well as a lamp.

Tv cuts off and green light flashes

If your set was manufactured around July 2005, you may need a firmware upgrade to solve this issue. On the Sony website you can enter your model # and serial # to see if you TV is affected. If so, it is easy to have done and may be free from Sony. It sounds like the issue they described in the writeup on the required formware update. I had mine done within few months of when i bought it (purchased in Dec 2005) and it has been working flawlessly since.

Good luck!

Zenith 27inch B28A11Z keeps powering itself off

Hi Pswglaw,

From the way you describe the problem, it seems you have a high voltage leak. To check this, make the room dark and look into the back of the TV while turning it on. If you see something like lighting jumping around you have this high voltage problem. The TV will eventually destroy itself under this condition. I would suggest not using it until you get it repaired. The repair cost will be much lower if the TV is still working when you take it in. The high voltage leak will destroy more parts and cause the TV to stop working. Then it will blow a fuse.
