SOURCE: Occasionaly the engine shuts off and won't start on JD gx345.

If the fuel pump is working correctly then the problem is between the tank and the pump. run a fuel line from the pump to a gas can. If the pump is working it will siphon the fuel into your filter. If the pump is fine then there is blockage, broken fuel line (sucking air), or something blocking the pick up inside the tank.

when you turn the key on to the run positon do you hear a clicking sound coming from the carburator? this tractor is equipped with a fuel shut off solenoid on the carburator if you dont hear the clicking sound solenoid is either not getting 12vdc or it is defective.

check for cracks in the spark plug wire it sounds like it is shortening out or a ground wire.

SOURCE: JD 4440 Tractor - how to get air out of fuel line

the air should purge itself out while you are trying to start it. it should onlt take a few pulls (or cranks) one the starter to acomplish this...good luck

Car wont start


Make sure that there is fire to the spark plugs. Try a shot of starting fluid. If it cranks, then you have a fuel problem.

Cub Cadet has gas, has spark, has air -still won't start/run


Are you pulling the plug to check for wetness after cranking it a few times, WITHOUT using the starting fluid? Also, I would recommend using carb cleaner in place of the starting fluid. Starting fluid runs the engine VERY hot for a brief time and can possibly damage rings, valves, and aluminum parts.

I have a snapper 28 hi vac riding mower that won't


first try and start it with carb cleaner or starting fluid with the air filter out if it fires then its a carb/fuel problem if not it could be a spark problem remove the plug connect hte wire back up and crank the engine over while looking for spark if no spark disconnect the kill switch wires from the side of the engine should be a single wire near the throttle cable if spark with that off the problem is in the wiring or safety switch if still no spark its the coil

If the engine fires up for a second or two with starting fluid then the fuel pump is weak.I would check the fuel pressure and if its not within the specs then replace the pump and filter.

1992 mx-3 v6 won't start. will hit sparaticly as if about to start but just won't catch. checked crank pos. sensor. need suggestions on how to proceed.


Check for a blue snapping spark on 2 or 3 plug wires(or all of them). If you get good spark, then ignition is likely not the problem. A weak or sporadic spark could be a bad coil or coil pack, or a bad ignition module (the ignitor).Check the coils with a volt-ohmmeter per the specs for your car. The ignitor can be tested at a parts store.
If spark is good, check fuel filter, fuel pressure, check timing marks on crank pulley and cam marks, Try a little starting fluid in the air intake and see if it runs for a moment. If so, then it's likely a fuel delivery problem. If no change, then it's likely an ignition circuit problem.

I assume it cranks, but won't fire up? Make sure the choke lever is moving the linkage in front of the carb. If so, tap the carb bowl lightly with a wrench. (That fixed mine once, and it never did it again) Have you had your valve lash adjusted? Be sure the carb is getting fuel. Pull the fuel line off the carb, and try to crank it... My X320 has 1,500hrs on it, and I have had great luck! Keep me posted, I want to help you get this figured out!

Have 22HP BS V-Twin in a 2010 Husqvarna rider w/25 total hours. Recently won't cold start without priminig. It will crank and crank cold til the battery runs down. A shot of starting fluid and it runs...


nearly all petrol mower engines need to have the 'choke' engaged to start from cold. This enriches the fuel mixture, and is similar to priming. If there is a prime 'button' then you will probably have to use this all the time. This is normal.

However, you should check with your dealer to see if this is an unusual situation.
