Your top button might be a reconnect... I had a similar problem with a new keyboard mouse combo, I even purchased a new set and it turned out to be a speaker was too close to the USB receiver. When in regular windows it would stutter a bit but during games after a while it would just shut down. I figure this is because games used the speakers more idk Moved the speaker no more problem thus far.

If i understand that you have to push the left button and works, it sound like there is something wrong internally, my suggestion is to buy a new one so you dont have go throught pushing the top button any more.
