What kind of light bulbs are you using? I know it sounds crazy but the new LED and the old CFL can interfere with the range of the transmitter by blocking the signal to the receiver

How do I get distance from opener will only open whenupclose?

Has it always been that way, or just recently.
Most garage doors will open for about 100 or 200 feet away.

If it just started, you can replace the remote battery.

Hope this helps.

I have a 1/2 hp Sears Craftsman Garage Door opener about 18 months old when operating the remote within 5 feet or less of the opener the opener works properly. Upon exiting the Garage about 10-12 feet away...

The difficulty is determining if your remote or the receiver is bad. If you have another remote that works as it should then it is the remote. If you just have the one remote there is no way to tell which is bad.

My garage door opener only works from a couple feet away

On the rear of your motor unit just to the left of all those white wires you will see a small light. If this light is flashing randomly it is normal. If it is flashing rapidly it is an indication of interference or you have keyed your remote. It really sounds like interference and you will have to do some more checking things.

315 mhz is the radio frequency and you cannot change that. In fact if you purchase a new opener you will get that same frequency.

Your opener was made by Chamberlain Mfg. Co. that also makes Liftmaster. That may be where the confusion comes in.

My garage door opener remote range limitted

Hi,
Yes the receiver can go bad over time and lose range. Most likely the receiver cost plus the labor will cost as much or more than a new unit...depending on who does the repair. FYI another cause of reduced remote range can be signal interference from other sources which would be a little harder to track down unfortunately. Wireless routers, new appliances anything with electronics are a possible source of trouble. If you or a neighbor bought any new gadgets there's a small possibility of thatbeing the issue. But based on the age of the unit that's my first guess.

Having trouble setting garage door opener to my 2004 trailblazer

1. Position vehicle within 10 feet of garage door- engine off and battery on.

2. Press/hold 2 outside buttons of Homelink transceiver until red indicator starts flashing rapidly, then release button. This should take about 20 seconds. This erases any previously learned codes.

3. Press/hold remote control and press/hold button of Homelink transceiver simultaneously. Slowly move remote control from 5" away to 1" away from Homelink transceiver. Release both buttons after red indicator starts blinking rapidly. This should take about 5 seconds. I discovered that the Homelink in my TL is a bit faulty because it took much longer to accomplish this than when programming the Homelink in my MDX. My TL's Homelink may "unlearn" it's code in the future and the needed proximity of the TL to the garage door may be much closer than desired until I get the Homelink fixed.

4. Press training button on garage door opener unit until the indicator lights illuminates- this should be immediate.

5. Within 30 seconds press/hold the Homelink button for 2-3 seconds until the red indicator starts flashing rapidly. Repeat a second time. It should now be programmed. Check it by pressing the programmed button on the Homelink receiver.

6. When programming more than 1 garage door opener unit, disconnect power from unit before programming more units. By not doing this the programmed unit could conflict with the unprogrammed units commands.

Problems:

1. The Battery in the garage door remote may be too weak to program Homelink. However, the battery may be strong enough to operate the garage door. One of my remote controls had a weak battery- my system was installed today, fresh out of the box. I had to use the second remote control for the programming of Homelink on my 2 vehicles.

2. Antenna on the garage door opener unit must be hanging down, fully extended.

Craftsman garage door opener remote failure

You may be receiving interference. Take all the batteries out of the remotes and try them one by one. You will not have to reprogram them. If you find one shortening the range of the others then get rid of it. Or it may be an outside source. Worst case is you will have to replace the logic board. Thanks BB

Remotes don't work

I recently had Verizon FIOS equipment installed in my garage (for phone, internet and TV), which is plugged into a 110 volt electrical outlet. Thinking this equipment might be causing some RF interference, I unplugged the FIOS equipment, and both garage door openers immediately worked perfectly again!
After reconnecting the FIOS equipment, I then plugged the garage door opener into a different electrical outlet approximately 15 ft. away via an extension cord, and the openers continue to work fine. Fingers crossed, I hope the issue is permanently resolved.
