Question about Cyber Acoustics AC850 Headset

3 Answers

Hello, I have the AC-850 headset that suddenly stopped working on my laptop. It had been working for about 90 days. It works fine on my other pc. The sound card works as it plays music from disks inserted into the cd player and boadcasts radio transmissions. The oval shaped little box with the blue light is on when connected so there is power to the headset. I have tried plugging the connector into each of the 4 usb ports with no luck. What should I try next?

I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted...no change. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running XP. What do you suggest I try next?

  • hjwilder Aug 20, 2010

This is not the problem. I tested the mic again in sounds/audio devices and it did not register my voice. I tried it again without making changes and it did pick up my voice; then again and it didn't. I will try it on my other pc which I have already done without issues but will try again and see what happens.

So tested it on the other pc and no sound......seems like the headset is dying and it is about three months old.

Are you try with use usb sound card adapter?

This may sound silly, but some computers have two different USBs....USB1 and USB2, perhaps it is made for one or the other. There may be that there might be an issue with two files that are named incorrectly on your system. If you right click on your start button and select "Explore". From there you need to click on the "Windows" folder, listed on the left side of your screen under "Local (C:)" and then the "INF" folder. Scroll down the list of folders and file names on the right side of your screen.

You will see two files listed as "wdma_usbinf.bak" and"wdma_usbpnf.bak". These files should be listed as "wdma_usb.inf" and "wdma_usb.pnf". In order to do this we need to rename the file. Move the mouse pointer over the first file name, "wdma_usbinf.bak", then right click with your mouse.

From the pop up menu, you want to click "Rename". The file name will appear in a box in order for you to rename it. Change the name to "wdma_usb.inf" and then press enter. Do the same procedure to rename the "wdma_usbpnf.bak" file. Close the explore window, restart the computer, afterwards plug in the USB headset.

Audio Settings with different ports have different results. The driver maybe corrupted. You can uninstall the driver & let Windows reinstall the driver to reset the settings as factory default. The steps are:

  1. Hook up the headset into to problematic USB port
  2. Follow the attached instructions to remove the USB Audio Device driver, provided by Microsoft Official website --> http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/support/driver.mspx
    1. Log on to your computer as an administrator (if you have to)
    2. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
    3. Under System Tools, click Device Manager.
    4. In the right pane, expand a category to find the hardware (USB Audio Device) you need to reinstall. Right-click the device, and then click Uninstall.
    5. In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.
  3. Unplug & Plug the headset to this USB ports & then the driver will be automatically input into the system. Then, the headset should be resume to work.
  4. Finally, check General Setup to make sure the setting correct
  5. After doing that, In Skype panel, click Tool, select Options
  6. In the left panel, click Audio Settings & then select your audio in & out to USB device on the right side, using the drop down menu for Microphone and Speakers.
  7. Click Save.
Try to check under the ControlPanel, Sounds&Audio Devices, there should be the Audio tab. Under this would be the Default device of the USB Headset.
Does it work for any thing else? ie music programs, recording sound? I will assume you've tried other usb ports on the computer and reloaded the software for it. Perhaps you could try on another computer, if it doesn't work there either, then it must be the unit itself. I found out that it IS a USB2.0 connection.
If this doesn't work after a reboot, a quick check to see if the settings are right, I think it is the unit.
Also, I suggtes check his link will resovlve your issue: cyberacoustics FAQ-headsets

Hope helps.

Hi, well the usual thing that stops these headphone from working is that the wire breaks, either close to the plug, or at the other end.
This is one of the problems of these wired headsets.
If you are handy, you maybe able to repair it, by obtaining, some suitable dual core coaxial audio cable, and a suitable plug, and remove the old wires and solder the new ones back, on the headset. Sometimes you can get an already wired plug, and then you simply need to resolder the connection in the headset itself.
If this isn't possible, then may I suggest, that for your new headphones you get a wireless unit. Either Bluetooth or I/Red.

It has just occurred to me that you did indicate that it DID work on another PC... Well in that case maybe it isn't your cable.. but a driver USB port problem. In this case what you should try first is

Remove and reinstall all USB Controllers/Drivers
To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
    Click the Hardware tab.
    Click the Device Manager button.
    Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click
Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB Drivers again.
Plug in the removable USB Headphone, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

This just may fix your issue..

My mic on my headset stop working

Hello,
If your mic has stopped working this may be due to the fact that the hardware has finally worn out and may not work anymore. If the product is less than a year old try contacting the manufacture to claim your warranty.

Compaq N610c does not power on on AC adapter or on Battery :(

Hello,

it might be that the AC adapter is no more working. To confim this, remove the laptop battery and test the AC adapter with the laptop.

You can also borrow a friend's AC adapter and test it with your laptop.

I wish you good luck.

I am unable to listen through my headset connecting through my laptop. it was working fine a day before, suddenly some problem occured

Make sure that you have to headset plugged in before you start the program you're using. Be sure to set te headset as the defult audio device for the program as well.

If this doesn't resole the issue, checking for driver updates, and/or uninstalling and re-installing the drivers usually works.

Laptop sudden poweroff randomly

I googled "fujitsu laptop forum" and read a couple of posts and it may be an AC input jack problem. If the computer does this without the battery and only AC plugged in then you could assume it's not the battery or charging circiuts. Some laptops get mother board problems but that was not what I read. It wouldn't hurt to go to http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7 and post your problem. good luck.
