SOURCE: loud noise when I start the vacuum in carpet position

Not exactly a solution, but more of an explanation. The noise is caused by a ratchet device that's designed to protect the belt if the brush roller becomes blocked. It's a bit like a clutch that slips when resistance on the brush gets too great. The noise will occur if there's a solid blockage, of course, but it will also occur whenever the machine senses excessive resistance. This may happen on carpets with really thick pile, but can also happen if the carpet is loosely fitted and can be sucked up tight to the roller by the force of the vacuum.
Small consolation, but the problem should lessen as the brush wears. Meanwhile, if all else fails, switch the brush off (hard floors mode) while vacuuming the problem carpet(s).

SOURCE: Piece of chalk sucked into vacuum

Yes, it is stuck somewhere in the vacuum. Turn it upside down, and you will probably find it lodged. Also could be lodged in hose somewhere.

SOURCE: Our vacuum bag was full and we keep on vacuuming.

Get a professional repairer to examine it. Even with an over-full bag, dirt will not have got in to the motor if the pre-motor filter was correctly positioned and in good condition. However, the motor may have been damaged through lack of air flow and consequent over-heating. Your machine may well need a new motor, and that's a job you won't be able to do for yourself.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I value your feedback, so please remember to rate this response. Good luck!

SOURCE: Dyson making loud noise

If your brushroller isn't spinning it will make the loud sound. Try removing the brushroll and reinstalling it. If this doesn't work, you may need a new brushroller. You can find one here...

Dyson making loud noise

Not sure if this will help but mine sometimes make a loud noise as well and its usually due to hairs stuck UNDER the belt in the motor area. Get some sharp skinny scissors and long skinny pliers and get under that belt, cut the hairs and use the pliers to pull out those hairs. That noise is usually because too much hairs stuck under the thing that turns the belt and the belt cant spin so it makes a lot of noise. When i do this it solves the problem of noise, but eventually hairs will collect in there again and make the noise again so i just take the hairs out again and problem solved.

Brush bar is not spinning

Common causes of brush roller failure are belt breakage and clogging. If this is a Dyson animal vacuum, you may find the brush roller is so clogged with hair that it cannot rotate. The solution is to remove the brush roller and clean it thoroughly, particularly inside the end caps where hair accumulates. It is unlikely that an entire animal was ingested.

I HAD MY DC17 VAC FOR 3 YRS NOW NO PROBLEMS AT ALL, I REGULARLY CLEAN THE FILTER LIKE IT SAYS BUT LATELY I'VE NOTICE THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT MORE COLLECTION ON THE TOP OF THE FILTER WHEN I'M DONE...

The vac is over heating. First, you should try a new filter. Also, keep in mind that after cleaning the filter, make sure that it fully dries. Using a wet or damp filter clogs it quickly. Second, turn the vac upside down and make sure that the roller is fully cleaned and free of hairs and strings. Afterwards, with the vac upside down, quickly power on and make sure that the roller spins and listen carefully for noise at the roller. There may be something stuck inside. If it doesn't spin, verify that the belt has not slipped off or broken.
Good luck.

LOL do you mean when you move the vacuum forward (say into a baseboard)? it makes the loud shocking noise.. i hate that too.. but that's the crazy Warning sound indicating something is stuck (like you sucked up an area rug) or you have run into something and it set off a sensor.

Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum - terrible loud noise

What I found was that it is the roller brush. If you are willing to get a little dirty and do it yourself, there is the roller brush that most likely needs to be cleaned. After a little tinkering of my own, the roller brush can be slipped out or just shift it out of place to clean it. There are two ends to the roller brush and the brush itself. Of you twist the two ends until the come apart you would probably find a lot of hair and other long strand items wrapped around the rod that goes through the brush. Once you clean that out it should work like new. If that does not work then it is probably the clutch which is what the belt around the roller brush is connected to. Hope this helps, it is a simple solution.
