Question about Toshiba Satellite L505DES5025 Notebook

Open Question

Hi, I have a Toshiba L505d-S5992 laptop. About a month ago I was getting on a plane for vacation and the day before I wanted to turn off my wireless connection. So to do that all I did was press FN F8 on my laptop. I also turned off a few things on the startup menu but I'm not sure if I disabled anything that would be important to this. So right now I am hardwired into my router but I need to get my wireless working within the next few days. Getting back to me ASAP would be very much appreciated. *Side notes* My brother suggested that I try using a Linux/Knoppix live CD, so I tried that and still couldn't get my wireless working. And yet the hard connection still worked. Im wondering if my Wireless chip just doesn't work now. It would seem strange because the Wireless stopped working a day after I disabled it. Also, when I go into my PC doctor thing, it tells me yes "Wireless connectivity is disabled" and tells me to search for the switch on my laptop. Well the only switch would be my FN F8, so I'm thinking if I get that fixed first, it will all work

SOURCE: Wireless network adapter won't turn on

Hi there.
It sounds to me that the Atheros wireless card may have gone bad, in some cases this does happen.
Check in the bios to make sure that the wireless adapter is enabled, apart from that i cannot suggest anything else as you have just about troubleshot everything a PC technician would do before coming to the conclusion that its the hardware which is at fault.
If the machine is still under warranty then please take advantage of that, if not then a reputable PC repair shop will be able to fit a new card in the laptop and they will make sure it works before it comes back to you.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

SOURCE: Fn+F8 hotkey dose not work but the remain FX go fine

Another Alternative is to check your BIOS to see whether or not your Wireless is turned on, if it is not pressent in your BIOS then update your BIOS Driver on the Internet to ver 1.4, Double check your version Compatabillity. Next if the adapter driver is installed, follow the following intructions: start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> now look for the wireless adapter, see if it is operational or marked with an error -> if it is marked check that it is configured for automatic, and also the resources. Set the configuration manually if so. restart the system.

1) Resource conflict = change resource settings
2) No adapter = check if the adapter is enabled (Y) then see if there is any conflicts (y) correct the settings e.g. resources and see if windows shows that the device is enabled (N) try to enable this device. If (N) then goto BIOS settings to correct it.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: I don't know what fn f4 or fn f8 do.

Hi,
Laptop keyboards can differ with the function keys and are set out different depending on make and model.
If you take a look at the F4 and F8 keys, is there any symbols (in blue) on them? If there is post back here with a description of the symbols, If there is no blue symbols on the keys then they will do nothing and there is nothing to worry about.

Regards.

Battery wont charge

Unfortunately with a computer that old, the battery will stop working correctly and will no longer hold a charge. The only way to fix this issue is to buy a new battery. You can get them from Toshiba, but I would do some searching on the web first. You might be able to get it cheaper from another site.

How to unlock toshiba laptop when is says locked

Wow, this sounds like a problem one of my customers had with his Toshiba. I'll have to look thru my invoices to see if it's the same model. Anyway the only way it can be removed is to contact Toshiba and tell them the problem and they will give you a UPS or Fedex Shipping Label and fix the problem at no cost to you. This is a known defect of theirs.

Need to see location of cmos battery on a toshiba satellite l505d

It's soldered to the bottom of the motherboard,

Scroll down to Step 23 , and click on the photo.

Main article,

NOTE*
You will be unsoldering a solder connection on a BATTERY.
Need to be good, or the battery could bl-ow up.

Make SURE you have no Static on your body, OR use an ESD wrist strap, and connect the alligator clip to a Good ground source. (Average cost is around $3 to $6)

I hope this is because the laptop will not keep the time, and date.
You CANNOT reset a BIOS password this way.

Toshiba's have a small capacitor in line, that stores a small residual amount of power. Enough to keep that BIOS password set, even if the CMOS battery is taken out for days, weeks, or months.

There are two SMALL copper pads that are shorted out BRIEFLY, with a jumper wire.

I really need Internet so I tried hooking up my bluetooth to my laptop (toshiba satellite l505d-s5965) which apparently does not facilitate Bluetooth, is there any way to make it work?

Not sure what you are trying to do, bluetooth is a short range wireless protocol, this is not for internet access.
If you want bluetooth on your laptop, buy a bluetooth dongle, they are very cheap.
If you want internet without an internet account at home, buy a mobile internet dongle, they are about £15 a month for 2GB limit
