Question about Ovens

1 Answer

Hello, I have a scd302tp and the convection element just went up in a puff of smoke (literally). It looks like it shorted out and melted. I ordered a new element and replaced it but it still doesn't work. I re-set the over-temp button but that did nothing either. Everything on my electronic display seems to be functioning properly. Do you have any ideas I could try? Regards, Gary

When it shorted it fried the relay that is powering it - replace that. Also check the command to the relay, it might also been fried.

Hello - Sounds like the element or the control board to the element is not communicating correctly. I would have a professional diagnose the element first. You may only need to replace it. Otherwise it could be the control board not allowing the element to heat up properly, a faulty mechanical thermostat or an oven sensor.

Turned on my electric oven and it made a bang and a puff of smoke appeared what is this?

something shorted out,, unplug it, and remove the back cover, Look for any burned spots that will look like little white marks,, usually when that happens its the element, But if it fed back to the control switch that can burn also

Will not heat up past 200 bottom element is brand new?

Hello- It sounds like it is not getting 220V. I would first check the breaker and reset it a couple of times to make sure that it is sending 220V to the oven. There could be a problem with the relay board not sending enough voltage to the element. I would also check to see if the convection element is ok, it may share a common 120V wire with the bake element. If you are unsure about testing the elements then I would call a Tech out to test the voltage. The oven may have to be pulled to determine if there are any shorted wires. Good luck and best regards.

Elements in convection oven won't heat

DO you have a model number for that. I'm almost sure it's a thermal fuse in the back of the oven. Usually they go out during or after cleaning but that would shut down both elements. If you have the model (usually by the inside door look all over and up in the cavity) Then if you go to this link

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?intcmp=xsite_Sears

It will show you a breakdown of the oven and where it is. If you give me the model I'll show you what I'm talking about. Good luck.

P.S. if it the fuse it's a cheap fix, little hard to get in back of the oven but cheap!
