Cd/dvd rom drive not recognized by windows xp

The drive is recognized in the bios, but not at all in windows xp, any ideas, I have looked everywhere for a solution to this issue. New drive time?, it is recognize when I put it on a desktop computer, with a special hardware adapter.

The special adapter only works with the cabling on a desktop system. The laptop has to have the small hardware adapter for the drive.

Try the special adapter on the laptop.

try this then, see if you can get an IDE to USB adapter, or buy a Desktop HD size external HD case, and use to chip to use a IDE to USB adapter and then plug THAT in the laptop, that should work or use the adapter to the chip in the external HD case, and make that HD portable.

I would advise you not to do so. Most manufactureres did not release proper drivers for windows XP, as MS didn't encourage them to do so.

I can advise you to install windows 7 instead. I've installed it on all of my computers and I'm more than pleased. You can even run different programs as if the windows was XP... (and no, I don't work for Microsoft...)

Even if you don't have driver for CD-DVD ROM with the Operating System, your BIOS must recognize the CD ROM.Set the BIOS to Default setting and check it recognise now.Check if you have disable anything related to CD ROM in your BIOS. Remove your CD Rom and place it again and check.

Drive light comes because of power supply to the CD-ROM.

If nothing works,Download the firmware update

Does it show the device in the BIOS? If not then there could be a problem with the motherboard hardware. If it is not showing up in the BIOS then I would first verify that the power connector for the drive has voltage. Also verify that the slave/master jumpers are correct if the drive has any. You could also try downloading the BIOS update from Fujitsu and see if after updating the BIOS it brings the cd-rom drive detection back. If the BIOS is seeing the drive but Windows is not then the problem could be with the Windows drivers or installation. You could try going into the control panel for windows and use the "detect new hardware function" and see if Windows detects the drive.

Hello,

Make sure the BIOS is 'seeing' the drive. Reboot your pc, press F2 as soon as it starts to boot (Or watch your screen and the POST will display which function key to press to enter setup.) If the BIOS is NOT seeing the drive, you may need to a) replace the drivers for the dvd or b) replace the dvd rom itself. (I recommend the drivers first.) Please repost your results and we will continue to monitor your progress.

You will need to download the latest drivers, check device manager under control panel and make sure the device is enabled.
Check to make sure your cd rom installation has been installed correctly.

You will need the drivers for the drive. When you look at the devices in device manager (devmgmt.msc) do you see any drives under DVD/CD-ROM drives?

CD / DVD player not listed as device on Windows Explorer

Try physically removing the player and fire up the laptop. Power down the laptop, replace the player and power back up. If that doesn't help, see if BIOS recognizes it.
If that doesn't work, get back to me.
