Question about Frigidaire FRT21P5A Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

1996 Frigidaire Fridge/Freezer.... The fridge is leaking underneath suddenly, soaking a full sized towel every 2 hours. The water rung out of the towels is slightly brownish in color. No leaks can be seen inside the fridge whatsoever (completely dry). The fridge is still keeping cool and the freezer is still keeping things frozen / ice is still being produced normally. Any ideas?

I'd check the water supply line to the fridge. If kinked of damaged, may be the source of the leak (make sure that the the connection point to the building's cold water pipe isn't leaking - and simply running down the supply line to the fridge!)

Of course, it could be a cracked solenoid valve (turns water on and off when the ice maker calls for water for ice), loose or broken clamp, broken filter (if equipped), etc. All these connection points in the water supply lines should be visible.

Unplug the fridge as soon as you can reach it before working on a wet floor with live electricity.

Please rate my reply if it was helpful - good luck!

Fridge not cooling after doors left open for at least 2 possibly 5 days. What should I do? Turn off for 24 hours? I have limited skills when it comes to repairing anything. Thanks!

It would have been far easier to switch off and just scrape the inside with a pladtic scraper ...then give it a good wipe and after a couple of hours plug it back in.

My kelvinator 290 refrigerator (not fridge/freezer) leaks water which apears underneath the 2 crisper drawers at the bottom? How do I stop this from happening. Can I unblock something?

you need to defrost the fridge. you most likely have a build up of ice in the collector from running the fridge to cold.

once down plug back in freezer and run on low temp for 24 hours and increase in small increments until the fridge is to a good temperature (about 39 degrees F)

Yes it is located in the refrigerator on the bottom in the back. I assume you know how to clear it, Hot water plus towel to soak up excess water should take several tries of very hot water until it clears. Good luck

Water is leaking from the bottom of the fridge.

Your fridge has likely gone through a defrost cycle. What frost was present has been melted and drained into the tray. During this cycle, the walls of the freezer are warmed up as well to facilitate melting the ice.

The air blown from the condenser fan should be blowing across the collection tray, and will evaporate the water in a short time. If you think that there is too much water, or it has started to over flow the tray, you can try scooping the water out using a small cup, or place the corner of a large towel into the water to soak it up. In either case, turn off power to the fridge first.

Side by side leaking water from under freezer side

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Leaking water on the front corner of the freezer side. We have turned off the water to the icemaker and have turned off the icemaker. Still leaking, not fast, but each day I clean up a puddle.

That is from your defrost drain either being clogged with food, or covered with ice. Behind the back wall in the freezer is a drain that empties underneath the fridge. If that drain gets blocked or froze over then the water will dump into the floor of the freezer and out the door gasket. Look in your freezer floor for ice build up. If you don't see anything like that or if you think the water is coming from underneath the fridge, then it is your condensate pan underneath. They crack sometimes.

Water leaking from underneath fridge

If you have a ice maker inside your freezer, check where the water connects to the back. I think you will find a leaking connection. Tighten connection to fix the leak.
