It's the dialog box, I disabled Automatic Updates. I cannot not get into the Microsoft Updates site because I keep getting the message "You need to restart your computer in order to view future updates.

  • mazeon May 17, 2008

I had already done that, no success. Let me start at the beginnning. I have Automatic Updates turned on to automatically download and install updates. One night (early APRIL) the updates downloaded and the dialog box came up to "restart the computer for the updates to take effect." That was a month ago and many restarts later. I've turned off "Automatic Updates" and deleted the "reboot required" option in the system files. These are not fixes to the problem. When trying to access the "Microsoft Update" site I get the error message (08xddd0007) which says to "restart the computer before I can view or receive updates." It seems to me that the computer is not recognizing that it has been restarted. Any suggestions?

Is it bubble that comes up in the right hand coner of your computer or is it a dialog box, if it a dialog box there should be a, restart now or a remind me later button, if its that then say restart now and see if this solves your problem, then try going to microsoft updates

HP Pavilion a1310n DVD Writer 740b running XP....doesn't recognize CD-ROMs (but it will play DVDs). Tried PC Doctor and various FixIts but to no avail.

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers for the reader itself? if not, Uninstall them and reboot, xp should reinstall the drivers automagically and see if that solves the problem.

The open with comes up when i try to open anything

The "open with" action is activated automaticlly when you don't have a file or command associated, with the program that you wish to open and run that file or command. For Windows Xp Pro look at this link to associate a file with a program.

My hp pavilion a1110n is frozen on the blue screen and it won't reboot. I've tried to use the command keys but it does not respond.

To solve a frozen screen error, please run a bootable windows XP and repair "c/windows" on the hard drive. Follow the instructions carefully and let the system restart and proceed. Use the key written on the XP CD. After repairing, please an Anti virus (Kaspersky 7 or 2010).
Good Luck!

How to restart hp pavillion 7965 desktop

Hi there. Try these steps:

1. On restart, press F8. This should bring you to a screen with various boot options.

2. Select "Last known good configuration". Windows then may load correctly.

3. If this doesn;t work, try the same thing. This time select "boot in Safe Mode". If Windows now loads in Safe Mode you should be able to restart and Windows may load correctly after this.

4. If these two both fail, you may have to repair Windows...

On/off switch for HP Pavilion a324x

You should open up the case and makesure it is still plugged in. If so look in the local phone book for a pc repair shop. They should keep items like that in stock. You can probably just buy one for maybe $10 and put it in yourself.

Pavilion 533 could not preform a system recover from the hard drive used recover cds from compaq sr201 both had windows xp,system recover started on the pavilion and but never finished ,now there is...

Because the hardware differs from the sr201 and the pav 533 you cannot use the recovery discs of one model on the other. You have two solutions. First, you can order your recover discs from HP for around $25 by calling them at 800.hpinvent. Second, you can use an OEM copy of windows xp and use your xp key that is on your computer. You may have to call in and have it activated but they will do it.
