Question about GE Spectra JGBP35 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore 24" Wall Model Oven. I believe the bake igniter is bad, as the igniter does not glow at all. The broil igniter works fine. So I doubt the control board is bad. My question though is this. I have removed the guts of the over to expose the igniter. I see that on the replacement part pictures the two wires appear very short with wire nuts. Yet when I look at my oven the wires go into the back of the over wall. My question is do I need to remove the wall over out of the cabinet to get to the wire nuts to replace the igniter? I can do this as I installed the over four years ago, but I would hope that much dis assembly is required. Thoughts? Lloyd

I have a Kenmore Gas Wall Oven Model Number 911.30469894. When BAKE is selected, temperature shows 100 degrees and the oven never starts up or gets hot. BROIL works fine. Thank you, John

The oven control supplies voltage to the oven igniter/gas valve circuit. When the oven control is set to Bake, voltage is supplied to the oven igniter which should glow bright red to almost white hot. Once the igniter comes on and begins to glow it must pull enough current to cause the gas valve to open so the burner can ignite from the igniter. I added an image below with the theory of operation. Click this link:--http://media.fotki.com/1_p,swbbsqrsgstsqkkxgtqsskgwtqkq,vi/wrgtsbrktxwdfwfbgdg/1/1303472/5961857/image5576034710104836299img-or.png

----Open the broiler drawer and then set the oven control to bake and watch to see if the glow bar igniter glows or not. If it does not glow, the failure could be a broken Igniter, failed oven control board or gas valve. If the igniter is glowing red, then it can be possible that gas valve is faulty. To see how igniter looks. See the fig below:--

Also to confirm, check to see if the igniter is getting 120 volts when it's turned on. If it gets 120 volts, then your safety gas valve is bad because it's not letting the neutral go through. Otherwise, if it's NOT getting 120 volts, your control board shorted out and you need a new control board.
But as you mentioned that control board is replaced. So igniter should get 120 volts. If valve is faulty. But if igniter is not glowing then its faulty igniter confirmed.

In most of the cases the igniter is faulty, because gas valve getting faulty is very rare. But still getting the voltages checked, will confirm. These will help. Thanks. Helpmech.

I have kenmore gas oven ignitor glows but will not light

Hello there:
It doesn't bake dot_lineone.gif Bake igniter
When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven would not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve would not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

-- defective thermostat
-- defective selector switch
-- defective gas safety valve

If you are certain the igniter is ok, it might be a good idea to call a professional appliance technician.

Hi i have a kemore gas range that the bake ingiter or broil won`t

The igniter in the oven does not spark. It heats up and glows red hot until enough current opens the safety gas valve to the burner. It is not associated with the stovetop burners. Replace the oven igniter itself.

Yes, you need to replace the igniter.
If you're comfortable splicing wires, you can order any ignitor of the same shape, otherwise go to searspartsdirect.com to find the exact replacement part.

My Kenmore oven wont ignite. The broiler works

The problem is your bake ignitor. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

The bake and broil oven features each have their own separate igniters and operate independently of one another. That explains why the broiler still works. They are, however, fed from the same gas source. So...the logical conclusion would be to replace your bake igniter (the no glowing is usually a dead give-away).

Replacements can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, appliancepartspros.com, pcappliancerepair.com, or repairclinic.com. Prices can vary amongst sites, so shop around for the best price. The sites I provided to you, I found, tend to offer the best service and prices.

If you have questions along the way, or require addtional service, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kenmore gas oven broiler.

sounds like the relat for the ignitor isnt closing on the control board. take the back panel off and turn the broil on then on the control board test the broil tab to ground. (it should be labled.) you should have 120 coming out of the control. if you do not replace the control.

Kenmore Oven

Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.
Ignitor part numbers for round style ones: 4342528, WB2X9154, SGR403, 5304401265;

Ignitors of the same shape (i.e. rectangular) are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires.

Good luck!
PS go to searspartsdirect.com, type in your model number for the exact replacement part number.
