It can be the power supply went out due to bad DC filter caps, that will be the first place to look.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My lap top does not display anything when turn on

There might be a problem with your display. This might be 1 of several problems, which i will go threw in a moment. First of all, try to connect your laptop to a normal monitor with a cable, if it doesn't show anything at all, you are out of luck... but let's go threw the possibilities:
The flat (connector to the motherboard) is not properly connected or its damaged
  • In this case, the external monitor connected to your computer will work just fine, this is a minor problem, the cable is cheap it-self so, if your computer is still in warranty, take it to the support, they will fix it.
The liquid crystals on your monitor are damaged
  • Try lightly tapping the zone on the bottom of the monitor, does something happen? A computer monitor works by LEDs or Liquid Crystals, if they are damaged tapping the zone where the connectors are (typically the bottom and the top of the monitor) should make some color appear randomly. This is bad, the external monitor will work as well, but this a an expensive malfunction, if the computer is in warranty take it to the support, they will fix it, else, consider buying a new laptop, the monitor is almost the same price as the laptop itself most of the times.
Connected external monitor also black?
  • This mostly means your graphic card is damaged. If the laptop is in warranty, take it to support.
You can see something pretty faint and dark on the monitor?
  • This means one of 2 things. The back-light of your monitor is damaged. Recent laptop displays use a light to lighten the screen so you can see the monitor from every angle, if this light is damaged, the monitor will work but very dark... Try pointing a flashlight to the monitor, if you see something better, you have found your problem. Once again, warranty time, a back-light replacement is a bit costly...
  • Another, less problematic, issue is that if your computer receives an high voltage charge, it will automatically shutdown some circuits for safety the monitor is one of them. In this case, remove the battery, shutdown your pc and press the Power button for 30-60 seconds. This will make the computer discharge all current on the circuits. Let it rest for a minute or 2 and power it on again, if this was the problem it should be fixed now.
Hope this puts you on the way to find your problem. Good luck! :)

Connect it to an external monitor, or get its back light fixed.

ViewSonic VA703m 17'' LCD monitor Issue

I would make sure that all the cables are securely connected to both the monitor and the pc computer (screwing the screws from the cable to the port will help hold the cable in). Beyond that, the issue is likely with the monitor and not something that can be fixed by the end user.

If the device is still in warranty (and checking the cables don't work). I would recommend sending it back to ViewSonic to have it fixed.

MY MONITOR IS SHOWING AN INPUT NOT SUPPORTED FLOATING MESSAGE. I JUST HOOKED IT UP TO AN EMACHINES COMPUTER. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Does the monitor work on another computer? does the computer work with another monitor? I the answer is yes to both then here is the most likely solution
you may have the screen resolution and/or the refresh rate set too high on the emachines computer. For Windows XP: Boot the computer and use F8 to get the Safe Mode boot menu. Choose the first Safe Mode and log in,... if you see windows come up then go to display settings and and change the settings to something low like 800x600 and refresh rate of 60hz. Restart the system and you will the display and can make adjustments from there.
If either the monitor does not work on another computer or the computer does not work with another monitor,.. or if you are not able to see windows from in safe mode,.. you may have a more serious problem with the monitor or vid card.

My monitor is stuck in power saver mode

There is something electrically wrong in your monitor which an electrician can identify and fix. There is nothing to worry, some capacitor might've shorted out. It'll be fixed cheaply. Hope this works.

Sears can fix it about $80 an hour. or you can try the manufacturer of the monitor to see if they can fix it....shipping and handling would cost about the same as taking it to sears repair. would advise tring to fix it your self....take it to a professional.
