The problem is usually not the bearings at all but the felt guides on the front of the drum. The felt wears off and then makes lots of noise. You can access this part by removing the front along with the door. Listen close with the button in and door open to see if the noise is coming from the front or rear.

How do you take out the rear drums out of a 2002 ford focus zx3 i took out the four nuts in the middle of drum and still didnt come out

You may have to loosen the brake shoes. And also "bang" on the drum with a small sledge hammer. Generally the will be rusted on and may require a good amount of force.

My maytag dryer is making horrible squealing and scaping sounds. What is probable problem and how do I fix it? I have dryer out but see no access to front panel.

hi the noise you hear is going to be the drum bearing it sounds like it has collapsed and will need replacing if your is the model shown in the picture then its the back of the dryer you need to get to you should then see the center of the drum and this is where the bearing is located its not an easy job to replace and if any damage has been done to the part where the bearing runs on the drum then this would mean any new bearing you put in would also not last very long so if their are scratch marks or sharp edges then this means the drum will also need replacing.

if you remove the back and take the drive belt off then try turning the drum with the belt off you should feel its a bit tight or you should feel it grinding, you could actually try doing that now open the door and try turning the drum by hand and see if you can feel the grinding.

the bearing will need replacing and possibly the drum depending on how much damage has been done to the drum due to the bearing collapsing,

if your doing the job yourself then you may need special pullers to pull the bearing casing off as the chances are this has been welded to the spline due to the heat caused by the bearing falling apart, its not an easy job to do but it can be done.

Dryer is squeaking while in operation

Rear drum bearing may need lubrication or replacement. This bearing is located on the back of the drum and requires taking the washer housing apart to get to it. They sell a high temperature lubricant if that is all that is needed, but a small bit of automotive grease or bearing oil will work well. You may have to buy bearing replacement parts ie a drum rear bearing and post kit or a bearing replacement kit. You will need better than average skills to do this yourself. As soon as you take off the front panel the drum will have no support and will drop forward. Try not to let the drum belt to become to loose or the belt retention wheel may become disengaged and the belt will fall off. Make sure you unplug the dryer before taking ANYTHING apart.

I have a 93 Chrysler Town &Country mini-van yesterday on the hwy I thought I felt a wobble when driving but nothing was visibly wrong. Now I noticed a dragging or grinding sound and this time when I...

It shouldn't fall apart if you remove the tire and if it does you should be thankful you didn't drive it to the shop, jack that side of the vehicle up and then rock the tire from the top and bottom, sounds like you may have a bad wheel bearing, the grinding could be the bearing or it could be the rear drum dragging on the brakes or both. If the wheel has excessive wobble when rocked it is probably the wheel bearing.

Heavy thumping noise with the turning of the drum

sounds like your rear bearing is bad, look in the rear center of your drum. for a crome pop out plug. Pop it out with a flat srew driver
there will be a nut that holds the drum in. take that nut off and you can lift the drum right out the front of your dryer. the front cover pops off after you take out the 2 screws from the lower front panel.
