My Lexmark X5400 series printer tended to do this, the following troubleshooting is what has always fixed it for me. Starting with simplest to most extreme fixes..

1. Reboot PC, with PC down, Unplug Printer for at Least 30sec, Restart Printer Then PC. ("Note you must unplug printer, don't just power it off")

2. Try above steps but also disconnect USB cable. After PC starts and you are logged into windows, Click Start>Devices and Printers (Win 7/Vista) or Printers & Faxes (Win XP), and look for your printer to say "Unavailable/Disconnected" in the "Status" for the device. While the printer is turned ON, reconnect the USB cable and wait on Windows to re-detect the hardware.

3. If above steps fail,
A: Use Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features to completely remove all software installed for the printer, BEFORE shutting down
B: Right-Click your My Computer Icon (Either on desktop or start menu in any Win OS), go to Manage in the pop-up context menu, Then on Left-Hand side, go into "Device Manager", Under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" expand all the tree's listed until you see your Printer,When found, Right-Click and "Remove" your HP printer if listed, clicking "Yes" to the pop-up. ("NOTE: After software uninstall OR if the printer is unplugged OR USB disconnected, you may not see your device listed here at all, if not, that is fine, skip this step")
C: Disconnect the printer from the PC, reboot Both devices, then proceed with manufacturer's instructions as if you had just purchased the printer for re-installation.

(* Anytime "Reboot" is listed for a printer, this generally means to unplug it, as powering off only puts several models into a "Standby" state, which doesn't reload the firmware and perform system diagnostics on power on if device was previously powered on*)

When installing the printer click on local printer and uncheck the box below it. I think it says something like locate my device. then on next screen click create new port, you should see USB001 in there.

Will not print on command

Greetings welcome to Fixya.

Might I suggest downloading and installing the latest drivers for your HP Printer.
See my published guide entitled How to Install the latest drivers for Hewlett Packard Printer!!!

Be sure to connect the USB cable to both the computer and the Printer then turn on the Power. Try different USB ports on your computer/laptop.

Navigate to the Windows control panel and double click printers and faxes.
Click print test page on the bottom right of the box.
Also view the print que, right click on your printer and set it as the default printer.
Then in properties view the print que!

Also when you are printing in MS Word, click file print, then when the settings come up for the print ensure that your HP PSC 2410 All-In-One InkJet Printer is selected in the top most section of the box.

Tell me how it goes via comment!
Thanking you

Not printing

When printing from the microsoft word document, make sure the printer selected is right. By that, i mean the default printer selected in the printers icon under the control panel should be HP OfficeJet 6100 series and not HP OfficeJet 6100 fax.
So the reason why this message comes up " scanner failure ". is you are either selecting a wrong printer when printing from microsoft word document or probably the printer port is not selected right.

To check the printer port.
Click on start-->control panel-->printer & faxes-->right click on HP OfficeJet 6100 series--> select properties-->Select the top tab called ports-->
Check the ports selected here.
If you have a USB connected printer it should be your printer model with USB settings.
If you have a wireless connected printer it should be your printer model with wireless settings like IP address.

Printer port configuration and Zebra trouble

When you connect a printer to your pc the operating system adds a virtual port. Your pc will typically have 3 physical usb ports but can have as many virtual ports as you have devices to connect to it.

1: Ensure that your printer has media loaded and is powered up and ready to print. Connect the USB cable. You should get a message on pc screen saying device (printer) found.

Open printer driver ( double click on the zebra printer icon - Start/control panel/printers & Faxes/) Click print test page. If it doesnt print you will see a printer icon with a red question mark.on your toolbar, double click on this. This will bring up a small window showing status of the print job, Click printer/properties/ports. Select the next free usb port and click apply. Drag the print status window so that you can see the message in the status window change from Error print to error Restarting. repeat trying each of your usb ports until printer works. start with the higheat usb with highest number and work your way down.
