Reinstalling the driver for external hard drive might fix it.

And also make sure that you got the exact usb cable that you lost. Exactly for that Maxtor hard drive.

There are usb cables made from China that could be compatible but will need its own driver to work.

Ou have a usb controller board that is malfunctioning and it or the case for the usb hard drive needs to be replaced.
the power regulator that is built into the usb controller is not working therefore the usb logic circuit cannot transmit the signal to the PC viia the USB port and will not recognize the device. You can order or purchase a new case that will accommodate the hard drive from your local computer store.

Hmmm What software do you need?
You should not need software to run the HDD. Just plug it in.
You can get the One Touch software from Seagate (who no own Maxtor) See

I restored my computer and i saved all my data in my one touch 4 mini hard drive. Now my computer wont read one touch 4 mini 250gb. can some one please help me i lost everything?

No, you haven't lost anything. When you restored your software, you only restored the factory stuff. You'll need to reinstall the driver for the external hard drive. After you do that, your external drive and data should be accessible.

Broke external hard drive

It depends on how badly bent it is. If you're stable with your hands, and can use a small nail to pry the deformed peice straight, do so carefully. If however you absolutely need to save the data on the drive and can't afford to have the bent peice fully break off, take it to your local computer repair store and they should be able to replace the connection.

Maxtor OneTouch III 160GB Mini

Does the Maxtor have a 120 cord? If so how about using a converter? They are about 20-30 dollars and connect to the 12 v system of the car and can be placed anywhere.
