You'll need a clamp on style ammeter to check it. On the data plate of the unit, look for the "LRA" Locked Rotor Amps value. Clamp the jaws of the ammeter around just one of the large black wires connected to the compressor and try starting the unit while observing the reading on the meter. If it's close to the value on the data plate, then your compressor is indeed locked. A bad start capacitor could be the culprit too

The compressor leaks air. The value on the bottom is really rustyI have hard to open it. How high do the compressor go before it shut off. I am thinkling to trade it in for a newer only. Thank You: Glenn

this valve is just a petcock valve and they are relatively inexpensive,as for pressure it will tell you on the compressor body tag, most are 130 to 160 LBS. in this size

If you turned this unit on right away after you received it you may haved damaged the compressor. You should always let a rfrigeration or a/c unit sit in its up right position for atleast 12 hrs. before operating, so that pressures and oil can equalize inside the system, unplug the unit and check the wires at the compressor and make sure they are still connected, Good luck.

I have a single room 8000 btu kennmore air conditoner was making loud squealing noise when compressor kicks on and now it makes no noise and does not cool at all please help

sounds like the compressor may have died on you. the compressor isnt running you might as well trash it sorry for the bad news but it probably isnt worth trying to replace a compressor in a system like that it would drive you crazy and take forever if it could even be done.

Air conditoning gets warm at idle. 1998 buick

It seems the automatic idling lifter (sensor) once you switch on the a AC system has failed and thus at low idling the Ac compressor clutch gives in stopping the compressor to spin.
You have to check tht system out.
Hope this helps!

Getting cooler air

if you are desiring to have it 62 degrees in the house, the cool setting needs to be more to like 66 deg and the heat setting needs to be like 58 degrees. that would make it more around 62 degrees in the house.

change the heat setting first to 58 and then change the cool setting to 66. this gives your temperature 62 +/- 4 deg.

Air conditioner wont cool

the compressor has a capacitor that helps to start the compressor if the compressor does not reach the speed required to jump from the start coil to te continum work in about 10 sec the termic protector disconect the compressor for about 5 minutes but the blower or fan does work just blowing the air and that is not cold
