Question about Microwave Ovens
HI. There is a start overload relay switch that is attached to the compressor unit. This relay receives the duty signal from the main PCB and door switches. The door switches provide the open and closed circuit. Once the doors are closed, the PCB will then route the power signal to the compressor, via relay switch. If the relay experiences difficulties with the current, it will emit a clicking noise, thus, indicating a mechanical breakdown within the relay itself. This will be the culprit. You will need to replace that start relay. Once it is replaced, the unit will run as designed.
With that said; it would be wise to test the door switch circuit for faults before replacing the relay. There could be a short with in the door switch. Follow the switch test below to isolate the relay
Refrigerator door switch testing procedure:.
Gain access to the door switches terminals and follow the procedure as follows:
Test the switch for continuity by using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to zero when the probes touch the terminals. With the probes still touching the terminals depress the switch, the reading should change back to infinity. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.
If the door switch(s) passes the above test; Replace the start relay that is mounted on the compressor unit.
