No Picture but have sound

The TV is 6 years old. One day we switched it on and there was no picture but we could hear the sound. When we switch it off there is a horizontal white bar that flashes on the screen for a second. I would like to fix it as the TV has been great so far. Please help! No picture but can hear sound

OK I got my first TV, first to repair myself that is, and I have no training at all but am kind of a tech dork wannabe. So I checked and I have sound but no signal through the TV tuner, so I hooked up my Zenith VCR to aux 1 and sound with signal appeared, the VCR tuner still works :) so I am leaning toward the TV tuner. It is visibly damaged, and I'm hoping it is as simple as a broken connection. I also noticed a vertical flash and pattern of horizontal lines when it is turned off (white). sooooo I push on.... help!!!!!!!!!!!!! :>}

Bad picture

I am aware of some TV stations already being switched to their digital stations, even though the government has extended the requirement date to May '09. I noticed on my VCR, when the DST changes; mine doesn't change to the current days as it was made before we changed to 6 extra wks of DST. Does yours do the same thing, or do you set the time manually. If you are not on Dish or Cable and your local TV channels have gone to digital already, that would be the only reason that you are getting the faded/snowy pictures on both. There are 3 ways that you can solve this. My Favorite is #3 for people who don't have cable/Dish. Also, they give you a $40.00 coupon which is the highest amount I personally have seen. 1). sign up for basic cable (if you do, you will more than likely have to look in a higher Ch. # to find your local stations, only a few are being left @ their original Ch. #). 2).Get a Dish. Or 3).You can go to: www.DTV2009.gov and apply on-line for a TV converter box coupon. If you have a copier and fax, you can apply that way as well (must be submitted by 3/31/09.) You can also apply by phone @ this ph. #: 1-888-388-2009 for those who can hear. Deaf (TTY-English): 1-877-530-2634 OR
Deaf (TTY- Spanish) 1-866-495-1161. Good Luck!
Remember your local Ch.'s probably won't be where they are now, unless you are in a small town. If this
helps you, I would really appreciate you telling me what you think of my answer. Thanks so much! Once again, good luck! Good Bye & Good Day. P.S. If I can be of further assistance, give me a shout back, and I'll try to be of more assistance.

Picture is gone! :*(

the picture tube (what makes the TV picture work) has blown out. Just call you nearest tv reapair shop and purchase a new one. (these are kind of expensive!)

(Also, if it's fifteen years old, i think it's time to get a new T.V. hint. hint.)

Tv has sound but no picture

Sounds like you have lost video somewhere in the video circuits. Possibly the picture tube could have gone bad or lost filiament voltage. You can check to see if you have high voltage by holding your bare arm close to the screen. The hairs will stand up if you have high voltage. Absence of high voltage will also cause a black screen,but the sound might not work either since on some sets the power for the sound is supplied from the same circuit as the high voltage. Stargazer

NO Picture On 2 Video Inputs ( 1 front 1 rear ) : Sound OKAY

Since it is 5 years old mostly dry soldered appears. First sort out the soldered problem. Then check zener diode in video input path is short. Mostly the diode is short. Still get problem check video switching ic also. I think former is the most problem.
