Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Hello there from New Orleans!! I really could use some help. I have a Maytag mdb8951aws dishwasher that I purchased in 06 for 795 bucks, plus 180 for a 3 year warranty!! They came out maybe in 07 becaise of some recall, I don't remember what for. I called them because my heater stayed on all day yesterday and melted some dishes. Good thing we caught it last night and shut off the breaker. They said it was not recalled and out of warranty. Go figure! Do you know what this might be and how I might fix it? We really can't afford a pro at this time. Thanks so much for your time. I'm a Paramedic and will never stick you with a big needle!!! Feel free to email me at darrin.steber@gmail.com

It sounds like your heating element shorted out, causing the heater to stay on. You can replace this yourself, very easy to do. You should be able to buy this part on line.

Hey, thanks so much!!! I will get started on searching for that part. I hope that's all it is!! Much appreciated.

The heating element would be the metal thing on the bottom secured by two nuts from the bottom of the dishwasher, correct? I am looking it up online, but partselect.com is showing #28 as a float switch holder!! I don't mind replacing it, but I want to make sure I get the right part. If it is shorted out, I would have thought it would not come on at all.

I have a maytag mdb8951aws dishwasher for the past 3 months of so I has not been cleaning the dishes worth a ****. Leave residue on then and a white film. Any ideas what may be wrong

Hi

If the water inlet valve is fine and it fills with water then the issue seems to be with the float switch assembly that is bad and should be replaced. Float assembly is found inside the dishwasher's tub, on the bottom. The water that fills the dishwasher lifts the float, and when it reaches a certain level, it acts as a trigger for the float switch. The float triggers the float switch to shut off, thereby shutting off the flow of water into the dishwasher. A defective switch may interfere with dishwasher's filling and/or draining ability. Use voltmeter to test the switch. Set the device to the ohms setting x 1. Take each probe and touch them to one switch terminal each. This should produce a reading of either zero or infinity. Continue to touch the probes to the terminals, and press down on the switch's button. The reading should change to the opposite extreme. If the switch fails either of these tests, you should replace it. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

I noticed the black residue on the clean dishes.also anwhen I checked I saw the bottom of the door seal breaking down, melting so as the seal around the center filter. I was washing in high temperature...

I had exact problem with a similar model.Mine was about 8 months old. I could have ordered a replacement seal but it would have done the same thing after a few months (according to the shop where I buy/order anything that runs on electricity, most anyways). I opted paying a few extra bucks and bought a seal(not made by Maytag but they sell replacement parts that fit). Mines been fine ever since(no black marks left after high temp washing, etc) Following is a link that my guy orders from but you'll have to check and see if they have one to fit your model. www.apwagner.com/index.php?main_page=page&id..

My sub-zero fridge is about 20 years old. About a week ago, as it got hotter here in New Orleans, the beer bottles were sweating and not cold enough. So I adjusted the knob, and the next day everythin

what a **** way to make money. why can't you people just help people, instead of making it sound like you really wanna help, when all you really want is to make a buck. maybe i'd believe in your little program (sort of like a prob-specific online "Car Talk"), if I had some testimonials. Otherwise, find a better idea, guys.

Maytag Dishwasher

Newer Maytags should fill close or up to the heater not over. Sounds like your alright for now but I would get that water line fixed.

Load crunching noise

The motor has a 2 to 5 year warranty so if that's what the repair guy says I would go ahead and have it repaired. The noise can come from the pump, impellers or the motor. But if he's sure that's where it's coming from have it fixed by the repair service under warranty.

check that the pump/filter is not blocked or that the drain hose is not "back filling from the sink waste piping -if it is plumbed in there.
