Monitor going black

A couple of weeks ago I started having a problem with my monitor F1703. I would move the mouse and the screen would go blank. I rebooted several times and it finally stopped. Last night the screen will not stay on - it keep going black and if I turn the monitor off and then back on I get my screen - dark for about 3 second and then goes black. Any suggestions as to what the problem is? monitor goes black after a couple seconds after i turn on. monitor has general flicker to it and will go black for no apparent reason. Started happening when I attacked it to a generic graphics card in VGA mode. I had been running it as DVI on prior computer. Set resolution to 1024 X 768 75hz which calms it down somewhat but it still has a minor flicker and not so stable condition.

Try setting it to 1024 x 768 and 60hz since the type of cable that you are using doesnt support a higher resolution, it should be at 32 bit as well and try checking the native resolution support for video card.

make sure cables are attached tightly from both ends as well.

Hello there.

Is the monitor under warranty? I have a similar problem with a LCD monitor. If you click this link here you can see other users with the same monitor as you, who are having the same issue.

This link has instructions on how to repair the monitor, if possible.

Hope this helps.

I recommends turning off the display and unplugging it from a
power source for 48 hours. This may correct the problem on many TFTs
    and LCDs.

It happens when the image or part of the image an LCD displays doesn’t change for a long period of time.

To avoid future burn-in, use a sleep mode to
darken the monitor during periods of inactivity. A screen saver or a TV
channel without a logo continuously present on the screen can also
prevent burn-in from unchanging image elements.

    Thank you

Just moved and trying to set up the computer. Monitor light keeps flashing with a blank screen

Check that the "data" cable between the monitor and your computer's video-card is tightly connected at both ends.

No "signal" reaching the monitor means nothing on the screen.

The hp f1703 will display for 3-5 seconds and go balck

rking3905, Please tell me if F1703 is BOTH BLACK and BLANK, or if it is just BLACK! If the screen is BLACK and you can see the WIN-desktop with aid of flashlight held 1" from the screen then the monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply" is in partial shutdown mode having detected a FAULT condition with the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" power supply called an INVERTER circuit (12vdc to 600-1200vac) to light-up the lamps hung on the rear of the LCD panel which produce WHITE light so you can see the image or text displayed on the LCD glass panel. In any case, you or a technician will need to evaluate the true state of your monitor. Also try to view some video clips on YOUTUBE that deal with "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair". The longer (8-12min) clips are best. FYI goto www.ccl-la.com/badcaps, www.lcdparts.com, www.badcaps.net for more information on what may be the cause of your BLACK and or BLANK screen! If this was of some help, please rate this response on fixya.

Monitor black screen

Your first step in troubleshooting this problem is to plug in another monitor to your computer. If you are having the same problem it is related to your computer. If the second monitor works fine then your original monitor is shot.

Monitor going black

HP's are known for bad capacitors in the power supply.
Replacing them is simple if you know how..not so simple if you don't.
Try your local TV repair centre. It should not cost alot to have the capacitors replaced.

Hope it helps =)

Monitor going black

My HP f1703 is almost 3 years old and started having this same problem. My fix got the display to stay on. Don't know how long this fix will work. I set the monitor brightness to 51 and contrast to 41. You may have to adjust to your levels to your appropriate enviroment. Levels may determine how long the monitor stay operational. Do NOT set your monitor brightness to factory levels it will just start to recreate the problem again. Solution: The monitor should be on with the blue button lighted. If the screen is acting up (you turn it on and the display lights up and then it turns off within 2 to 5 seconds) Try decreasing the brightness level down as much as possible. Wait 15 to 30 seconds and see if the display comes back to life. If not, turn the monitor off and on again and try the procedure again, if necessary. Cause: I believe the monitor brightness level, set at 100 by the factory setting, is over driving the display and causing the protection circuit to cut off the flouresent lamps that light the display. HP had an issue with this display, and had a notice to replace them if the problem occurred during the warranty period. They extended the warranty period from Jun 04 to Feb 06. Check with HP Technical Support to determine if your monitor is cover.
