where are you? eg. Town, city, state, country?

Hey, thanks for the quick response and info. I'm in Lompoc, which is in Central California. I've been able to listen on the same frequency number, 460.125, for several years. At times there used to be periods of little or no activity, a few hours at most, but now I can't get anything from the PD, although I'm still getting EMS just fine. I wonder if they did encrypt the frequency...

Well this is odd! As I'm answering this email I can suddenly hear traffic again, after a week or so of nothing. I wonder if there is something wrong with my scanner, a Uniden Bearcat BC200XLT?

This can be for a few reasons. Make sure they did not switch frequencies or that the police frequency is still programmed in. To make sure you know your local codes you can goto a website such as these two website 1, website 2, where they may list the frequency needed. and last but most likely not the case is they do have private frequencies now that are encrypted with Motorola technology and requires a 8-16 digit passcode to hear the transmission. so if your trying to tune into a metro drug unit, or local swat this is the case most of the time.

If you need further assistance please feel free to follow up with a comment and i will be here to assist you. If this assisted you please feel free to rate the comment 4 thumbs up. thanks and have a great day.

Chances are that your police communications have moved to a trunked radio system, while fire and EMS remain on a "standard" system for compatibility. For the latest information on active frequencies and systems in your area, visit www.RadioReference.com

Motorola k7gt9500 police channel in manassas virginia?

Your Motorola radios operate in the FRS/GMRS band, which is at 462 MHz. Police, fire, EMS services, etc. operate in the 150 or 800 MHz bands. Your radios cannot receive public service transmissions, and they cannot be modified to do so. Monitoring public service transmissions will require a scanner.

I cant get it to pick up the police what do i

First you need to know what type systems and what frequencies are in use in your area. If your local law enforcement agencies have switched to trunking systems, as many communities have, your scanner will not be able to receive/follow them. You should, however, still be able to pick up fire, EMS, etc. For system descriptions and active frequencies, visit RadioReference.com and/or CityFreq.com.
