It is likely due to overheating. I would leave your system for a bit to allow it to cool down. When you start it, prop it up from a flat surface a bit simply by putting a pen or a small article to allow for some airflow under it.
Usually a laptop not booting and shutting itself down is related to a hardware failure, low battery, or safety shutdown in case of over heating.
Give this a go, Let the laptop sit for 10-15min while off. Then unplug the laptop and remove the battery. Then plug it back in without the battery. See if it boots. If it is still shutting off. Contact the manufacturer for support or a local technician. -Ravi Shanghavi

I don't know my computer shuts down automatically.

In order to advance on the resolution path, could you please check the following :

This problem could come from a power saving mode that we see more often these days.
You must ensure that there is any setting in the BIOS that could cause the machine to shutdown ? If you want to make sure it's comes from the BIOS or from the Operating System (I suppose you use Windows), I recommend you to boot a linux live CD on a usb stick or CD. My recommendation would go to download and burn the latest Kubuntu CD, then boot on it (without installing it of course), and wait for 2 hours to check if the computer did stop or not.

When i shut the notebook down and tryed to load it back up it will not load it gets to windows is staring and then restarts the process

Hi there!
Your computer may have an error that is causing the computer to restart, Try this one, when you turn on the computer start pressing f8, then advance boot menu should come up, after that select, disable automatic restart then the computer will start booting to windows then it should display the error, if it still stays on the screen q/o showing anything, do the f8 process again and this time select safemode.
Hope this helps!

The computer starts then shuts down.

Try booting up the computer pressing whatever key the Dell needs to boot into BIOS (F10, Delete key, F1...pay attention to the screen) and leave the computer on for about 15min. See if it cuts off then. If it does its more than likely your power supply. If it doesn't then its not hardware related.

Standy By Going off/Computer shutting down

The presentation power scheme is used when you are giving a briefing using the PC as your slide show. So the presentation power scheme will never shut off the monitor or the hard drive, don't want it to shut down in the middle of a briefing. However, leaving it in that state for long periods of time may cause the CPU to overheat and shut itself down for protection. A better scheme for quick boot up would be Home/Office. Turn monitor off after 20 minutes and "never" for hard disk. This way it will save energy (therefore heat) and you will have a quick boot up. If you are using XP Pro, there is also an option to automatically put it in standby when you close the lid of your monitor. Hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know... Please rate this solution before logging off.

Boot/Startup repair problem

Microsoft updates do it again!!!
while the PC is booting up his F8 repeatedly, if it lets you into the sub menu boot into safe mode and perform a system restore, take the computer back to before you did the updates, if this works and your computer is restored, turn the automatic updates off

kind regards and please don't forget to vote

Hey I apoligise for the late reply,

Ok, first off when you turn off the computer without shutting down, windws does not get enough time to wirte necessary data to the disc, this does not always cause aproblem because sometimes there are unpredictable events such as power failure..

You might need to format your hardrive to fix this problem
To do this boot with the windows cd, it will say press any key to boot from disc. (YOU MIGHT NEED TO SET YOUR BOOT DEVICE IN THE BIOS(SETUP))

anyway fisrt off try a fresh install, leaving your current file system intact. Id that works then you will still have all your data on your disc, If not then you need to do a complete format.. Good Luck
