Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a 2009 Holiday Rambler 42 Ft. RV. The problem is with the self defrosting Freezer. It is a Dometic with an ice depenser/water. The model number is: either NEA 1402 or NDA 1402. (Exterior description): the doors are side-by-side. The freezer door has an ice/water dispenser. Even w/ the bottom of this dipenser the seam between the doors makes a 45 degree cut to the right and then straight down again. Here's the problem: The channel within the freezer compartment that collects and drains the defrosted water fills & overflows w/ ice. I have been told that if the heat strip at the bottom of this channel isn't working the entire unit won't work. The unit DOES work but it DOES SEEM that the defroster strip isn't working which would explain the water freezing before it can drain. I have defrosted the freezer and poured water into the channel and it exits the drain tube behind the outside access panel so I don't think there is anything in the tube. FYI: I had a water leak below the refrig, a steady drip. I took it into an RV place for service. They said they thought it was the defrost line leaking. I said it was a steady, timed drip and seemed to be a PRESSURE leak. I'm a customer and CAN"T be right, so they pulled down HARD on the drain tube to remove any kinks and declared it fixed. When I got it home it was still dripping. I found the REAL leak 5' away in a kitchen faucet supply line and tightened it and stopped it. BUT, ever since that RV placed "fixed" the drain line the freezer has been freezing up. Unfortunately we will not be near that dealer for many, many months. This MAY NOT be connected but I wanted you to know everything about the situation.

Owner manual

Contact the manufacturer of the coach for their owner's manual. However, each appliance will have a separate owner's manual form its perspective manufacturer, i.e., Water Heater = Suburban, A/C = Dometic, Refrigerator = Norcold, etc.. There will not be a diagram of electrical or plumbing as a majority of the RV manufacturers do not publish that information.

Ice in the bottom of freezer

the drain is clogged most likely...remove lower shelves, baskets, remove rear panel if self defrosting.. find the drain hole and use a hair dryer or hot water to defrost ice..once the surface ice is will need to make sure there is no ice in drain tube going down under freezer. use a squeeze bottle with hot water and force it into drain. do this repeatly until water runs free down drain....Bruce Denton

Freezer not defrosting

Hello pumpguy2

You said, you have a Kenmore bottom Freezer Model 596.73503201. It works fine but the freezer has stopped defrosting. Any suggestions?

It is supposed to be auto or self defrosting.
What do you mean you are getting ice forming in the freezer?
Waiting for your response and more detailed explanation.

Dometic Top Freezer RV/TT Refrigerator

You have a switch inside the door. Turn it on this actually keeps the light on inside. This may help with your humidity problem. Also check to make sure the drain out side of the coach is not clogged you should see water coming out
