Hi Guru thanks for the quick respond.I don't think is the dogs. The motor won"t run just a humming noise and getting hot when come to wash cycle then I turned it off. right away It's weird manually turned the timer to spin cycle and it spun and drained as normal. If it"s the motor problem it will not run on spin and drain cycle.I think it may be the timer or something else. Thanks

Typically - the motor's capacitor has failed when this happens.

Take it off and run over to your appliance store so they can match it up.

Thanks!!

Your model number 110.27711600 does not come up.
I believe I can help you anyway.
From your description of NO AGITATIO,your agitator dogs are worn.
Remove the top cap from the agitator.
Remove the plastic cap from inside the agitator.
Remove the bolt from under the plastic cap.
Pull the agitator out.
The 4 rubber dogs are inside the agitator.
They are teardrop shaped.
Replace these parts about $5.00.
Reverse the above order to re-install the agitator.

When in the spin cycle the motor runs in reverse.
There may be something stuck in your drain pump that is blocking the motor from running in the forward direction.
The pump is active in wash or spin.
Pull the pump and check for blockage.
While you have the cabinet off check the tub for a garment stuck between tubs.
If these things check out OK,your brake may be stuck.
You could remove the motor from the transmission and leave it attached to the drain pump and run the motor in WASH and then SPIN to see if the motor runs OK in both directions.
You will have to jump out the lid switch to do this.

Guru, there's no blockage as I 've said it spun and drained as normal.there were no garment in the tub I removed the pump and turned the shaft was free. I only thing that not sure why did it work on spin cycle? when come the wash cycle the starts hum.The only thing did not remove the motor from the transmition to try it out. Thanks

Is it in fact spinning or did it just pump the water out?

  • rcmleong Aug 19, 2010

Yes it drained out completely and the tub spun as normal .

Check for a failed capacitor under the control panel It is a start/run capacitor that the motor needs to start running. The motor will hum and if left will eventually burn out.

I have a Kenmore top loading large capacity washer model 1028882791. It began washing as usual then began to making a loud humming sound. The agitation stopped. It only makes a loud humming sound. I...

The humming sound is coming from the drive motor running but unable to drive the agitator nor the basket to spin. The drive motor is definitely running as the drain function works because of the fact that drain pump is directly coupled with the rear spline of the motor. The drain pump works in either direction as long as the motor runs. The problem is obviously a broken motor coupler which transfers the mechanical energy of the motor to the transmission. The solution then is to replace the broken coupler. Click on the link below for the detailed step-by-step procedure in replacing the motor coupler.

Replacing Motor Coupler on Kenmore and Whirlpool Top-Load Washing Machines

Washer wont agitate on ultra cycle

It doesn't agitate If your washer doesn't agitate, check these: Lid switch Motor coupler Belts Clutch Drive motor Drive pulleys Transmission Agitator Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Motor coupler Many washers produced by Whirlpool® use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. If this happens, you need to completely replace it. Belts Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.) Clutch If your washer was made by GE®, it may use a clutch for agitating the clothes. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the washer from agitating well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician. Drive motor Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor. Drive pulleys

your motor turns one way for the spin cycle and the other way for agitate. remove the coupler and test it that way.

Washer souds like trying to engage but won't

If the motor hums and will not pump out or spin, the motor is bad. It reverses direction and the reverse windings appear to be burned out.
