Mcdevito75 here, This can happen at times with an older watch, Parts and springs in the mechanism with a little wear on them can be stretched ever so slightly as to not allow the watch to actually un-wind. At times this over-wound condition can be corrected, but please be aware this condition can also upset the time keeping of the watch also. I am Mike D. of RITE TIME BASICS, listed in the repair service directory here at fixya. There is no charge for us to look and examine your watch, we will let you know what we find and our recommendations for getting your watch back ticking. Any work we do is reasonably priced. You can simply send us your watch First Class postal, and the return to you by First Class Postal is FREE once work is done. Bottom of this page click on Repair Service Directory, then watches, we are RITE TIME BASICS or, you can choose one of the other fine watch repair people here at fixya.

Overwound watch

there is no way to overwind a watch . If your watch crown and stem is stuck and cant turn then one of the wheels are broken or clogged. You will need to take apart the movement of the watch to explore the problem.
It is highly recommended to bring it in to a watchmaker at this point.

How do I set the time on the watch? The knob on the side doesn't seem to pull out.

On some watches the winder needs to be turn anticlockwise about a quarter of the turn before pulling it out.

This is to increase the water resistance of the case.

Some winders need to be unscrewed (its a water resistance feature).

Try turning the winder anticlockwise about a quarter of a turn or so.

(Don't forget to screw it back in when you have finished!)

Pocket watch seems overwound

INFO:
If you wound the watch and it ran you would not say you over-wound it.

The only way it is over-wound is if you wound it so Hard you broke the spring or broke off the stem.

The fact is your watch has Stopped running.

RECOMENDATION:
Seek professional help.

Have old Mickey Mouse self winding watch. Bought

I will explain from the last question asked. To get it going you have to visit your nearest watch repair shop and ask for estimate. Shop owner told you things he/she do not understand at all - self winding watches CAN NOT BE OVERWOUND, so, there is the question: are you sure this watch is self winding? I've experience of 26 years of watchmaking and have never came across Mickey Mouse watches having self winding movements. As far as I know, all MM watches are battery driven, but in case if you really have the mechanical one - you are lucky. That means there were past times when those watches were fitted with mechanical movements and now they are rarities. Even if your watch is not self winding, but is mechanical (not battery driven), visit your nearest watch repair shop and ask to check this watch out. In case if it is mechanical - pay the money and get it fixed (you will be a winner anyway). If it is battery driven - put it on your shelf where your's mother in law picture is and treat it accordingly. Rate me , plz.

Sounds like a broken main spring.

This is a fairly easy fix and may also be due for a cleaning and service.

Find a local repairman in your area.

How do I ajust the time in a watch 100 years old,

I would expect that pulling out the winder and turning it will move the hands.

If it will not pull out, it could be that the winder screws in for security. Try turning the winder anticlockwise and the pulling it out.
