The HP message center tells me: Device door open. The device of my printer is not open. I can still make copies or scan but can't print anything.

The door is correctly close. If it is a problem with the sensor I can't find it. Also, when I open the door there is lights flashing. But when the door is close the lights stop flashing. Unfortunately, the printer won't print.

It turns out that the problem is not the printer but my computer. I tried with another computer and the printer works fine.

The printer door covers the cartridge and printing mechanism and the printer will not print unless the door is closed. So the error message might be genuine.

The scanner part is not linked to the printer mechanism and therefore, keeps working.

Some options mentioned at Hp website might help.

But if the problem persists it is likely the sensor mechanism is faulty. There is a projection on the right under side of the cover which fits through a hole in the body and presses a sensor inside the printer. If this projection part is not making contact properly that too could give false status.

If readjusting the top cover at the hinges does not help then you need to service the printer.

Hope this helps.

If the printer works fine on another computer then you are looking at a driver or Windows problem. I would uninstall and reinstall the drivers to see if this makes a difference.

Let me know how things go

Hi, whilst you have this message you wont be able to do anything.
have you tried switching it off at the plug and see if that resets it and gets the warning gone, if it makes no difference then try opening and closing all the parts on the printer making sure you press them closed firmly what happens is the switch wares and then you need to push it closed further to make the connection you may need to rest something heavy on top to keep it in closed possition.

or one other thing you can try is find the switch that is pressed when the cover is closed then get a match stick and press the switch down further so you have it wedged in closed possition doing this should solve your problem.
if it dont then the switch has failed and will need replacing, this isnt an expensive part to get replaced and any computer repair shop will be able to replace this part same day as long as you tell them to order the part in first.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

The print cartridge door may not be closed all the way or the door sensor on it may be faulty. Check that the door is closing pressing against the button or switch when closed if you can see one

If it works good on another computer, then the drivers on yours need to be updated. That will fix it.

I see you already tried installing the drivers. After you downloaded the driver file, did you double-click the file so it install into your pc, then reboot pc before connecting the printer? That is the correct procedure. If for some odd reason it acts the same, then try reinstalling the printer software.

When trying to scan to my HP J4580 Officejet J4580 All-in-One printer it says "No scan options, refer to device documentation". What does this mean?

It means you need the HP scanning software running on your computer. The computer tells the scanner how to scan, what to scan and where to save the image after scanning. The scanner has no options until received from your computer.

Scan to computer, message telling me to Refer tp device manujal

Scanning to computer does not work if the Solution Center is not installed properly. Make sure the printer status is ready before scanning from Solution Center.

If you cannot open solution center, try adding a device using the CD. If not resolved, you may have to uninstall and then reinstall the entire Software.

Goodluck!

Can't scan on the HP OfficejetJ4580

Uninstall everything that has to do with your old HP printer, drivers, photo processing, etc. Reinstall software with J4580 printer. That should open HP Digital Imaging Monitor where you can set scanning options. Plug printer into the back opf your computer. Plug power supply directly into the wall socket.
