Question about Denon AVR-3801 Receiver

1 Answer

Mac Mini and Denon 3801

I have a Mac Mini with a DVI-HDMI connection to my television for video.  For audio, I have an optical mini-plug cable from the audio output on the Mac mini to the optical 2 port on the Denon 3801.  Video is fine but audio doesn't work.  Does anyone know the specific settings on the receiver needed to make this work?  Thaks!

hi,
You have to check the digital audio assignment of you AVR for HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. There is three options for the digital audio for HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. You can set it as optical ,coaxil, or the HDMI itself. In you receiver the assignment may be in optical input or in coaxial input for the two HDMI inputs.

1. Go to the system setup
2. Select input setup
3.Select input assignment.
4. Select all the three input ,you are using as HDMI

ok

Systems setup

Hii,

Try this out:

Go to the display settings in the settings menu. Pick HDMI for your video output and follow the steps to set your screen resolution. When I accepted the video settings I was taken automatically to the audio settings options. If you’re not given this option just go to the set audio output settings and enter this screen. Pick the optical connection and follow the screens choosing the audio options that match your receiver. DD and DTS.
At this point you should have video to your TV through HDMI and audio to your receiver through the optical cable.

Goodluck,
please dont forget to rate me as fixya..

How do i hook up apple laptop

For the Video
-------------------
In order to get the best possible video signal, the best way would be to first get a [apple video] to dvi adapter from the apple store. This depends on the display port you have on your laptop. The latest apple laptops use a Mini DisplayPort so you'd need something like ( http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Mini-DisplayPort-Adapter-MB570Z/dp/B001IF5YLQ ). Previous models have different ports so you need to check that first. Then you need a DVI to HDMI cable like ( http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimited-PCM-2296-06-HDMI-Cable/dp/B0007MWE1E ) to connect with your receiver.

Alternatively, given that you laptop has a Mini DisplayPort, you could get something like ( http://www.amazon.com/Mini-DisplayPort-Male-32AWG-Cable/dp/B003L18YG2/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1298916856&sr=1-4 ) which is a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable, and skip the conversion.

For the Audio
-------------------
The best way would be to get a toslink to mini toslink optical cable and connect them digitally.

An example cable would be :
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-27016-Velocity-Toslink-/dp/B0002JFN1A/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1298916230&sr=1-2

When you have both cables, you need to first connect them to your laptop and then to a matching port in the left hand side of the back of your receiver. Make sure that the numbers match (ie Optical IN(1) and HDMI IN(1))

How do I get audio from my tv to my receiver through an hdmi cable? AVR 2807

Your tv needs to have an HDMI out. If it has just connect that to the Denon. Tv might not have HDMI out so connect an optical cable from the tv's optical out to the Denon's optical in.

Connection problem with HDMI cables on Denon AVR-589

Hello,
I want to clairify you install, you sat you have I an HDMI cable running from the Time Warner Cable box to the AVR-589, going in to the TV/CBL input. From the Denon AVR-589, I have an HDMI cable running from the output to my Toshiba RV525U television.

Check the connection at the TV, if as you indicated above you have an HDMI cable from the HDMI out from the Denon to an HDMI output on the TV, if this is the case you need to have that HDMI cable plugged into an input on the TV not an output

We have a Denon AVR Surround Sound receiver, a Samsung HDTV, an XBox 360, an ASD-3W Denon Ipod Dock and Klipswitch speakers with a subwoofer, center channel and too bookshelf speakers. We need help...

HDMI input connect as follows:

1. Connect an HDMI cable from the Cable box to the TV/CBL HDMI input on the Denon.
2. Connect an HDMI cable from the Xbox to the DVD/HDP input on the Denon.
3. Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI out-put on the Denon to an input on the Samsung.
You don’t have to use the optical output from these to devices since the HDMI cable allows for the transfer of both audio and video, if you have them extra use them in addition to the HDMI cable and last,

4. On front of denon after you setup and assign your optical connections, if you use them, once you select TV/CBL or DVD/HDP as a source, press the input mode button to select auto

Denon 3801.cant display setup on tv

Hello gerrydav, What might be happenening is the refresh rate for your blu-ray is offsync for your preferred display. You should be able to change it by plugging it into another TV and playing around with the settings. If you have further problems please feel free to post again.
Please post what you do and how you did it. I look forward to your posts.
