Turn camera from "off" to "play" ( photo view..._

Pressing the “MENU/OK” button as you would to erases files. There is an option to format the xD-Picture Card. Formatting erases protected files, but allows you to then take photos.

SOURCE: I cannot get card to work in my fuji finepix a 340 says write error

If your new xD card is an "H" or "M" type card, it is only compatable with the A340 following a firmware upgrade to the camera. http://www.fujifilm.ca/x3721.xml is a link to the software and steps you can take to perform the upgrade.

SOURCE: initializing xd card

Put the camera into play or review mode then hit the ok/menu button on back and format the card. This will erase all of your photos so make sure you've backed them up or download them.

How to download your pic

Hi
You could either remove the memory card (xD card) from the camera (the side panel on the side edge of the camera closest to the lens, just under the hand strap), and plug the card directly into a card reader capable of reading xD cards.

Alternativley you could plug the mini USB cable into the camera and then into your USB port on your PC, this will then allow you to view the pictures stored on the camera.

Thanks
Demetri

Firmware online upgrade?

If you can find the XD type H card, you can use up to 2gb. There are no firmware upgrades for your camera.

Fugi S5000 2gb xd M+ Computer says it's not formated

Yes, it would appear that you solved your own problem. The Fuji S5000 apparently only takes the max of 512 mb card. I own a newer Fuji S700 and it works fine with a 2 gb SD card, but I haven't tried anything bigger. Your best bet is to see if you can exchange those 2 gig cards for 512 mb cards at the store where you purchased them, and then try the 512's to see if your pc will read the pics. Explain to the store what the problem is and they should allow you to make the exchange.

Can FUJI S 5000 support a 2 GB xD card ?

The answer is YES. Be aware thate there are 2 types of XD cards: type M and type H. The type M it is not recommended for movie recording with your S5000 camera. The type H does not have this problem. Here is fugi compatibility site : http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/accessories/card/s/

Memory card

Fuji uses 16MB xD card with the camera, which won't hold too many 4 Megapixel photos at the highest quality setting. So you should plan on buying a larger card right away. xD cards are currently available as large as 1GB, and I think 128MB is a good starter size for most people. Be warned that xD cards tend to be more expensive than CompactFlash and SD cards.
