Hi,

The phone line should be plugged into the modem's line in port and then plugged into the Router's internet port.

Thanks.

  1. Plug the modem into an electrical outlet.

  2. Plug one end of a phone cord or cable into the modem, and plug the other end into the wall jack. (DSL users: Do not use a DSL filter on the phone line.)

  3. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the modem, and plug the other end into the wide area network (WAN) port on the router.

  4. Plug the router into an electrical outlet.

  5. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the local area network (LAN) port on the router, and plug the other end into the networking port on the computer that you want to connect to the Internet. (If you are connecting wirelessly, skip this step.)

  6. Start (or restart) the computer.

  7. Open the Connect to the Internet wizard by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_47.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, clicking Set up a connection or network, and then clicking Connect to the Internet.

Followed all the set up steps but my DSL light would not stay on

  • 1 Plug the Ethernet cable into the Internet port on your wall. If you do not have Internet ports installed in your home, connect a phone line adapter to a phone line jack. The adapter makes the phone line wider so Ethernet cables can connect to it. This does not block your phone from use.
  • 2 Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the back side of the Netgear DSL modem.
  • 3 Connect the Netgear DSL modem to a local power source. The power plug inserts into the modem via a small port on the rear of the modem.
  • 4 Insert a second Ethernet cable into one of the numbered ports on the back of the modem. Run the cable to your computer and plug it into the Ethernet port on the computer.
  • 5 Look on the back end of the DSL modem for an HTTP: address. Type this into your Internet browser's search bar. The Netgear DSL modem menu appears on the screen.
  • 6 Select how many computers are to use the modem, if you are using it with other DSL modems and set up a password (the default username and password is "admin"). Click "OK" to initiate the changes you made to the menu. You can now use your Netgear DSL modem to connect to the Internet.

How do i connect my router to my modem

Your modem should have four or three sockets at the back, 1 for the power, 1 for the phone line, 1 for the network cable and 1 for usb but not all the time. You will need a CAT5 network cable, plug it into the network socket on the modem, this socket will have a sign on it like three computers, then plug the other end of the network cable to port 1 on the back of the router.
Phone your isp for the settings you need on the router and you should be good to go.

Have system for voip. Only can't hook up the

Try getting a router that has one in/4 out between modem n voip. Your voip unit should have an RJ45 connector to connect to router, not your computer. The USB connector might be to connect the voip to a different type of router, and will not be used. The 2 phone connectors are for two different phone lines that your voip provider can provide you with.
