Dear Sirs! My new (1month) Longines automatic watch hastens each day (and night) four seconds.Model L4.721.2 Is it normal or I have to turn to the laboratoty to fix the problem?! Thanks a lot Iosif

An automatic watch that gains 4 seconds in a day is good.A new Rolex is rated at 5 seconds per day so 4 seconds is well within what you can expect for your watch.As a tip when the watch is off the wrist place on its side,gravity slows the operation of the watch just a fraction.This is called positional error and may help.

How do you wind the watch


I looked you your watch on the Longines web site and it would appear that your watch is self winding.

To wind it, hold it level and swing it from side to side for about 100 times. This should be enough to make it start working.

Self winding watch will run up to 3 days (depending on make and model), so if you take it off, then it will eventually stop. These watches thrive on being worn, so wearing them most days (with an interval of not more than two days, will keep them running.

How do i set an older longines automatic admiral watch to the correct date and day


You can get instructions from their web site but if your watch is really old, then it seems unlikely that any of the instructions there are for your watch.

However, since watches tend to have similar features (although not the modern electronic types), a basic modern watch probably operate in the same manner.

Go to "www.longines.com/watches/instructions" and have a look at the range of instructions there to see if they are any help.

If nothing useful is found look at the "official retailers" to see if there is a local shop that can help you.

thank you for using fixya, you have a very fine piece of jewelry. it appears that your watch needs cleaning right on the knob and adjust mechanism. as per a service document from longines, a possible build-up or a broken first gear may cause this issue.

you may refer to their official statement when it comes to cleaning and having the watch repaired.

1) Where should I send a Longines watch that needs to be repaired, adjusted or serviced?If your Longines watch needs to be repaired, adjusted or serviced, werecommend that you bring or send it (well padded and by registereddelivery in the latter case) to your nearest Longines authorizedservice centre. You will find its address in your guarantee booklet oron our website in the Customer Service section.
2) Is the repair of a Longines watch that is more than 20 years old still possible?Yes, we still repair vintage watches at our head workshop in St-Imier.
However, without having the watch to hand, it is impossible for us tojudge its state and to know if all the necessary spare parts for therepair are still available.

Longines watch problem


Some longines watch has built-in battery gauge. When battery is low, the second hand jumps every four seconds. If you have new battery installed and the problem persists then there is a short circuit somewhere that drinks a lot of battery juice.
