Wiring a selonoid

The link above is just one of a dozen or more very helpful websites for Ford 8n tractors.
The original 8n tractor had a six volt battery with positive ground (this is different than most automobiles that have a negative ground). The starter solenoid is energized via the ignition switch and the large starter button in front of the gear shift, the small wires going to the solenoid energize a coil which "pulls in" and completes a circuit that then provides 6 volts directly to the starter motor through a large, heavy gauge wire. The smaller wires connect to the two terminals on the top of the solenoid and the heavy wire goes to the larger post on the solenoid and originates from the negative post of the battery... Hope this helps. There are many, many schematics and pictures available on the "net" The Ford 8n community is very large and extremely helpful....Good Luck

Set timing on 8n ford tractor!!

Does it have points?
Use a 12V. test light on the dirstibutor terminal to + side of coil. When the test light goes ON,that is the timing at the crackshaft.
Just like the old VW.

Water pump leaks through right side stud on 8n ford tractor

gasket not sealing properly you could try to put silicone on the bolt itself let it dry at least 24 hours then try it. you may need a new gasket make sure you tighten them in sequence usually middle right left top bottom to get a flat tightened match

I'm rebuilding a ford 2N Governor. I see that the Drive shaft and ball fin or divider are separate. Should the divider be a tight fit on shaft to rotate the four balls during operation?

Yes. The balls move outward by centrifugal force. The faster the governor shaft rotates the farther out the balls move until it actuates to limit the fuel flow.

If really helpful, please rate.

The steering column shaft in my 1954 Ford 8N tractor broke and I need info on howe to fix it.

Not sure, but if it's a 1954 model, it's not an 8N. 8N was only built thru 1952.
But sounds like you will need a new steering shaft.
