There is a chip on the cartridge that tells the printer when it is out and if it is a refilled cartridge. HP has gotten pretty picky on refilled cartridges. The one thing that sometimes works on some models is to pull the power, hold the power button or ok button down and then plug it back in.I would recommend buying a refilled cartridge from a local store or from an online retailer such as Print Country. They are generally really good about replacing reman items that don't work, just don't expect them to replace an empty one that stops working. They are still high quality and about half the cost as a new one. Also, don't forget to recycle the old ones!

Replace color cartridge

Access your printer properties and try preforming a print head or printer cartidge clean and on the machine try the print cartridge aligniment procedure.
If after you try both of those I suspect there is an issue with the print head.
If that is the case an ink jet printer is not worth repairing.

Color Cartridge Failure

You know, I'm not going to read the other solution. I know 100% FOR SURE, when a cartridge fails, it is dead and there is nothing you can do about it, but there is a good side. HP ink cartridges have a year warranty. Call them and tell them it failed, they'll send you a new one!
