Modem is making loud connection sound itself

When dialing, sound muted, the modem itself is making loud connection sound. Is there any way to disable since it is coming from the card itself?

Unsolder the speaker, its the black can with the hole in it. No other method unless it attaches to the sound card via a cable.

Thanks for the suggestion but I fixed it already. I had to do it twice but it finally worked. In the control panel, modem under properties, modem, speaker off. I then had to go thru system hardware, device manager, modem. Don't know why it didn't work 1st time but itfinally did.

Can't set up dial-up connection

Restart the computer.
Enter BIOS setup.
Click to "disable" both the COM1 and COM2 (or Serial1 and Serial 2) ports.
Save-and-exit from BIOS setup.
Restart Windows.
The modem should now be assigned as 'COM1', and should work.

WELL I SOLVED THEE PROBLEM BY INSERTING A "x3"AT COMMAND IN THE MODEM ADVANCED SETTINGS, AND I MADE A CALL FROM STANDARD PHONE LINE.

THE IDEA WAS THAT I MAKE A BLIND CALL, TO PLC VIA GSM MODEM. THE ATX3 COMMAND MAKE BUSY IF THE LINE IS BUSY OR BLIND CALL IF LINE IS FREE.

WELL THAT'S MY SOLUTIONS,

Can this modem work on a gateway laptop?

No... wait...

Do youe a dial-up service? or do you have a cable network?
This modem is for a cable system, like Comcast or Time Warner.

If you need a dial-up modem like the one in your laptop, then obtain a USB modem from Best Buy, Fry's, Office MAX/Depot:
like a "Zoom" or "SupraMax" or "US Robotics" brand, 56K v.92 modem.

It's kind of difficult to tell what your exact problem may be, but note that the cable and connections for dial-up and broadband are different.

The dial-up cable is telephone wire connected to its port in an internal modem. Broadband is connected with thicker Ethernet cable connected to a network card.

The ports look similar, but the Ethernet port is a bit larger.

So, you need to connect to the right port/card with the right cable.

When you connect to dial-up, you should hear a beep-beep-beep sound from the modem.

Hope this info helps.

My AOpen modem fm56-svv say: NO CARRIER

Assuming you have checked the connection to actually make sure you have dial-tone, you could go into the modem's properties page (Control Panel -> Modems-> Properties) then go into the MODEM tab and make sure to UN-check the box that says "Wait for dial-tone before connecting". Sometime the modems don't detect dial-tone properly.

Check the physical connection of the phone line to the computer make sure that it is connected to phone line symbol of the Ethernet adapter. Then make sure that the driver of the adapter is installed properly on the computer or you can try to scan the hardware first before the re-installation of the driver using the adapter.
