Press margin release key, move carriage using backspace to where you want the left margin to be and press left margin set key. Repeat for the right margin, use space bar to advance the carriage and press the right margin set key instead.

The left margin is stuck and the release margin works only the first time after turning on the typwriter. I can set the margin at a point on the left side, but after a few times of hitting the return key,...

Put a shot of WD40 on both sides of the silver shaft that the carroer slides on. If that doesn't do it put some on the carier motor bearings. The front one can be reached from inside of the T/W the rear one yuo will have to remove the case of fish the straw thru it. The motor is located on the R. rear corner.

To set the margins, go to the margin, press but don't hold the mar rel key, space or baclspace to desired position, press L. or R. margin to set it.

Doesn't hold left margin it will make a noise and margin moves over, sometimes to the far left and sometimes to the right to the middle of the carriage.

Try doing a comlete clear to see if it helps....this will clear all memory.!
Switch the unit Off...then while holding down the margin release key switch the power backON.
The machine will begin printing lines of a pre-programmed test page.
Switch the unit back OFF.
Wait 5~10 seconds and switch the unit back on. At this stage the unit is back to factory defaults.
The only other thing to try is to check the silver shaft the carriage slides across on....make sure it is clean, and lubricate the shaft with a lightweight oil.

Resetting the margins on a manual typewriter.

I can't be for sure if these are auto set margins, but it sounds like they might be. If they are, first move the carriage as far to the right as you can. Hold the Left Margin Set (not Margin Release) lever as you move the carriage all the way to the left. Release the Margin Set Button or Lever. Now hold the Right Margin Set Button or Lever (not the Margin Release), and move the carriage all the way to the right while holding the Margin Set. Once the carriage is all the way to the right, release the Margin Set. Move the carriage to the place you want to set your left margin. Hit the Left Margin Set and then release. Move the carriage to where you want to set the right margin. Hit the Right Margin Set and release it. It gets confusing, but Margin Release does not set margins. Its sole purpose is only to bypass the margins. Hope this helps.

Right margin gone awry! No Manual.

May be a little too late now but...when you get to the right margin and it beeps and you can't go any further, press the mar rel (margin release) button on the top left. Move to where you want the right margin to be and press the mar right button. This will set your right margin farther out.
