Vizio GV42L Three month ago I bought a Vizio GV42L LCD TV, from first day when turn on the TV, the audio is fine but the picture (screen) is black, when I re-start TV all is fine (Audio and video works well). This happen after the TV is off for a long period such as 4 hours.

Exact same problem with mine. Screen shows nothing, but sound is ok. I turn off the TV and turn it back on. There's sometimes a loud pop from the speakers the second time, and then everything works great. Mine's out of warranty, but I'd love to know what the problem with it is.

How to reset tv. Have sound but black screen

LCD's use a colorful crystal see through display which only visible when light is shining through it. if you have sound and no picture it's always a faulty PSU. Very easy to change out actually.

My Vizio LCD TV screen fades to dark. Sound stays on.

I w having this same issue when watching a Blu-Ray disc. I found it to be dependent upon what picture mode the TV was set to. By this I mean certain picture modes would cause the TV to dim during dark scenes of a movie. Changing the picture mode helped a lot.

Vizio 42" LCD screen is red where is should be black. It's only 3 months old!

It maybe a video board or LCD screen control problem. Best to use the warranty at this point. You shouldn't have to pay a dime for the TV breaking down this early.

GV42L

I had this same problem. Vizio sent someone out to replace the motherboard. It didn't fix the problem. Since it was under warranty, they replaced it with a newer model VU42L. Doesn't have this problem, but it has others.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
