Bios 8i845pe-rz

Hello you can download the bios file here:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1768&dl=1#bios

Download the file by click on the link.
The file needs to be unziped before you can use it.
And save it on the desktop so you know where it is.

You just have to make sure its the right mainboard.
Better safe than sorry.

Flashing the bios with a wrong one will destroy the mainboard !!!!!

When the upgrade is done you have to setup the clock and the boot settings for the harddrive.

Good luck

Power not up

1) Please make sure that the HDD IDE cable is plugged in properly on both ends. It is a 40 pin female cord which should be seated on IDE channel 1 on the motherboard.
2) Make sure that all the CD/DVD drives are on IDE 2 or on SATA
3) Make sure taht the Jumper setting on the back of the HDD is set to MASTER
4) Login to bios and make see if you can find the HDD from the IDE drives menu. I am sure you will. From Boot menu select the NATIVE mode that will activate both the SATA and the IDE channels. Select HDD as second boot device.

Hi there,

THere maybe a problem with the SATA/IDE connection.Check the connection first using another cable or try to another port. If it doesn't work, try the drive on another PC. Check for the power connection cable as well.

Let me know if this works,

Not deteck hdd & cdrom

Power down you're system and remove the power cable from the PS.
Open you're case. First clear the cmos jumper. See bottom of page 14 in manual. The GA-8VM533M-RZ motherboard was made Jan-1-2004. It is very likely that the cmos battery needs to be replaced. Average life span is 5 years or less. Pull the cmos battery and check its voltage with a voltmeter, it should read no less than 2.7volts DC.
I'm guessing it’s the bios that’s not seeing the CD-ROM drive and the hdd? Suggest you check both the data cables and their power cables.
Since the GA-8VM533M-RZ motherboard only supports ATA IDE hdd's, check the drives jumper. (It should be jumpered as a Master) and so should the jumper on the back of the cd-rom drive. See the link provided; http://www.easeus.com/resource/install-ide-hard-drive.htm
The link above helps but you're hdd may be different. See the sticker on
you're hdd for the correct jumper setting.
If you are using a single data cable to connect both cd-rom and hdd to the motherboard don't. Use an 80-pin data cable for the hard disk drive. You can use a 40-pin data cable for the cd-rom but if you have a spare
80-pin data cable connect the cd-rom drive to it.
Connect the hdd to IDE1 and connect the cd-rom to IDE2. See motherboard layout in the manual page 5. Need the manual? Download it from Gigabyte; http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=1766
To view the manual you will need to download and install Adobe reader;
http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
Re-connect the power cable to the PS. You can leave the case opened for now. Power on the system and press the Delete key every 2 seconds until the bios menu opens. (Make sure the time and date are set current). See page 19. Than turn to page 23. Make the settings as follows;
First Boot Device [Floppy] - (if one is connected)
Second Boot Device [CD-ROM
Third Boot device [HHD-0]
Password Check [Not needed]

CPU Hyper-Threading [Enabled]
Check all settings while in the bios, save and exit. The system will auto re-boot. If after replacing the bios battery (If needed), and the bios still
does not see either drive than the problem is either the bios or the motherboard's controller. The bios can be flashed but the MB controller can not be repaired.

Cheers'
Mike

Secondary IDE channel not working...

have you tried flashing the BIOS version? I don't know if this is just a problem out of the blue, or you just got the motherboard and it's always been like this. I know usually the manufacturer releases new version for the BIOS and you can use a flash utility to upgrade it and it could fix the problem. Have you tried using another operating system to see if it works in Linux (Ubuntu)? If it works in Linux, then you know it's a windows related problem. If it doesn't work there, then it's probably the BIOS version is outdated.

I am Having problem restoring my dell 2400

Well you may have a bad mother board or IDE port to which the HDD is connected. If the CD is connected to the same IDE channel as the HDD, move it to IDE1 which is the second IDE channel. If it then recognizes your CD, IDE0 is bad and you need to replace your board. Let me know how things are connected inside the computer.

Hdd installation

The capacity that a motherboard can support is designated by the BIOS.... a few years ago when HDDs started to get big, there was an issue in supporting disks above 137GB as this exhausted the old HDD addressing system..(BIOS), to rectify this the BIOS code was re-written to support 48bit LBA (Logical block addresses) so as long as you have up to date BIOS for this motherboard, it should be alright.

you should be able to install any capacity available on IDE as long as you have updated the BIOS to the latest version (check the Giga byte website to download this)

If you wish to upgrade your PC further you can get a SATA/PATA adapter, or you can get a PCI SATA, IDE or SCSI controller card. Effectively there are very few limitations to the number of disks nowadays.
