Question about Neff 24 in. S5453X1 Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

I'm having problems with the drain pump constantly running. I understand so far that it'll be the anti-flood device that is causing this. I've taken the dishwasher out and tipped it backwards to drain as much water out as possible but nothing comes out from anywhere ! It appears to be a sealed unit so how do I get to the appropriate part and fix it ? Cheers !

SOURCE: PUMP CONSTANTLY RUNNING UNIT IS MT OF WATER.

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. Based on your description it sounds like the emergency overfill switch has been actuated. Here`s what to do and what to look for. ( unbeknownst to many this is built by B/S/H/...or better known in north america as BOSCH ) **Turn off the breaker/power at your homes service panel...safety first of course** Remove the the bottom panel, referred to as a toe panel or kickplate, essentially the lower service panel. When you remove the outer toe panel, (typically black in color, though sometimes white depending on the model, customization etc.) there will be another small "L" shaped panel which is non finished steel, I find removing that allows much easier access as well. This panel can be somewhat more difficult as it secures the plastic channeling for the wires but if you observe closely you`ll see it does "snap" out of place...carefully. Once the panel has been removed check for any obvious signs of water in the base ( the unit has a plastic overfill basin with a float which will actuate an emergency overfill cycle, hence the drain pump runs & runs ) If you don`t witness any water in this area, direct your attention to the left in this basin/bottom ( from the front to be sure ) and you should see a device which will resemble a "stir stick" you`d use for coffee etc. it will be a red in color stick. With the aid of a wooden spoon, long screwdriver, or if you can manage to reach by hand, lift it up and down gently and listen for a "click". If there is no sign of water and you can here the "click" when lifting up and down the float actuater ( red stick ) then turn the machine back on and give it a try before reassembling the toe panel so you can observe for any possible leaks. Let me know what you find. This is the most likely cause of the symptom you are describing so we can move forward if this doesn`t resolve the issue. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Good luck. macmarkus :)

Hi.

The problem is probably the anti flood system. If the anti-flood system detects water inside the appliance it will start the drain pump instead of running through the cycle. In some case a defective control module can result in a similar problem.

There are several parts that can trigger overflow:

1) Overfill float switch.
2) Pressure switch.
3) Aquastop anti-leak device.

The float switch can be tested by jumping the switch contacts. The pressure switch is difficult to test, just clean drain system and hose connected to pressure switch. Check if there is water in the aquastop device and check device contacts. The aquastop is part 507-510-501 (assembly 512) in the diagram below:

SOURCE: Dishwasher drain pump continues to

You have provided a very detailed explanation of the problem. You will have to check if the spring in the float is ok. May need to replace it. Cheick this.

Dishwasher wont fill up with water

When you start the dishwasher you have probably noticed that it first drains water and is very important to hear that drain pump running all the time or stops after a while? Why?
If the drain pump runs constantly then the fault is in the phase of "drain water" or is activated anti-flood system. Reset point of pressostat is not reached after max. 120secs. Programme stop and can be continued after error remedy by pressing the programme key.

If the pump is running for a while and then stops, then the fault is in phase "fill up water". Switchpoint of pressostat is not reached
after max. 60 secs.

Usually built-in dishwashers has anti-flood system that responds in the event of water in the bottom of the dishwasher. Such a case, find and repair water leaks.

I have a neff dishwasher 5 yrs old enr number is s5543x2gb/17 and fd number is 8210 and the pump is constantly running.I have tried the reset option in the manual and this does not stop the cycle or pump...

The reason your pump is running continuously is that the "anti-flood" protection system has been activated. This is normally due to water having leaked into the bottom of the dishwasher under the washing compartment. It could also be due to a faulty anti-flood microswitch, but the first problem is more likely.

In the bottom of the washing compartment there is a "float". Look for a dome/cylindrical shaped protrusion rising from the floor of the washing compartment. With the dishwasher on and the pump running, push down on the float and the pump should stop. If it rises back up and the pump starts to run again, then you have a leak somewhere in the bottom of the washer. If it stays down or it already down as far as it will go, then it's more likely to be a faulty switch.

Either of these potential faults can only be fully confirmed by removal of the dishwasher from under the counter and removing some of the panels to get access to the components under the washing compartment.

After testing the float, if the pump continues to run, you should to turn off the power and the water supply to the dishwasher. The problem then needs to be investigated by someone who is competent to identify the cause of the leak or replace the float microswitch, depending on which is the problem.

Whirlpool dihwasher adp 4552. Water comes into dishwasher, appears to start cycle then water is drained out again and light flashes to show a problem!

This is a typical anti flood activation due to the anti flood device (polystireen float and micro switch) at the base of the washer detecting a water leak / spill. This device puts the washer in pump out mode. Check to see if water at the base is causing the polystireene float to activate the switch. Dry the water and rectify the fault (normally a leaky pipe or pipe clamp) and this should solve the problem.

The drain pump runs continuously when the Dishlex Global 300 dishwasher is turned on. When pushed, the buttons on the control panel would not change any of the cycles.

This could be that the anti flood device "polystireen float and micro switch at the base has detected water at the bottom due to a leak (pipe or pipe clamp). This device puts the washer in pump out mode and will not continue. Firstly you need to determine what causes the water leak and rectify it before it will continue.

Anti flood device has activated on my zanussi ZDF231,also there is quite aloud whirring sound ,like a motor struggling to work

The anti flood activates when water (even a small amount) appears on the bottom of the machiene. This is usualy a leaking pipe but can also be caused by a clogged pipe. Most machiens do have a plastic pipe that (from the flat water tank) feeds water to the bottom of the machiene in case of an internal fault. The anti flood is normaly a polystireen float with micro switch on the base of the washer. This automatically puts the outlet pump on to drain the water.

Drain pump

Switch off at the mains. Take a side panel off and tip your dishwater over 45degrees towards th open side. Make sure you put towels down to soak up the water that will come out of the base. This will reset the flood detector. Reassemble. Switch back on and let the dishwasher finish its cycle and away you go. Remember this does not solve the reason for the flooding but it will get your dishwasher going again. Depending on the cause of flooding you may only need to reset like this once a year.
