I got some more useful info for you.

To program a component using the Automatic Code Search method, perform the following steps:

    1. Turn on the component you want the remote control to operate.

    2. Press and release the component button that corresponds to the component you want the remote control to operate.

    3. The illuminated ON-OFF button turns on and remains on.

    4. Press and hold both the component and ON-OFF buttons.

    5. The illuminated ON-OFF button turns off.

    6. After the illuminated ON-OFF button turns back on, release both buttons.

    7. The illuminated ON-OFF button remains on.

    8. If
you press an invalid button during Auto Code Search, the illuminated
ON-OFF button blinks four times and turns off. The last programmed code
under that component button is retained.

    9. Press and release the PLAY button.

    10. If,
after five seconds, the component does not respond, continue to press
the PLAY button every five seconds until the component turns off.

    11. Each
time the Play button is pressed, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks
ten times and a block of 10 codes is sent to your component. This
process continues until all the codes in the Code Lists have been
searched. If the component has not turned off after all codes have been
searched, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks four times, turns off,
and the Auto Code Search Entry method is exited.

    12. When
the component turns off, press and release the REVERSE button, then
wait two seconds to see if the component turns on again.

    13. If
the component does not respond, continue to press the REVERSE button
every two seconds until the component turns on again. This will isolate
the correct code in the last block of codes sent. Each time the REVERSE
button is pressed, the illuminated ON-OFF button blinks.

    14. If
the REVERSE button is accidentally pressed after the component
responds, press and release the FORWARD button. Wait two seconds to see
if the component turns off again.

    15. To save the new code, press and release the STOP button.

    16. The illuminated ON-OFF button turns off. You must press the STOP button to save the code.

    17. If
some of the features of your component do not work, different codes in
the list can be tried until you find the code that allows the remote to
control the majority of your component’s functions.

One more thing to program it you will need the manual it is different
for every model but still try this out too..And please don't forget to
    accept my solution as fixya.

To program your remote to control your TV, follow these steps:

    ON•OFF

    TV CODE

    CODE

    SEARCH

    INDICATOR

    LIGHT

    TV (BLINK)

    5

    (OFF)

    1. Manually turn on the TV.

    2. Locate the enclosed TV Code List. Find

    your brand of TV.

    Note
: If your brand is not listed, use one

of the Code Search methods to program

this remote control. (See section on

    Code Search.)

    3. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key

    until the indicator light illuminates.

Then release the CODE SEARCH key.

    4. Press and release the TV key. The indicator

light blinks and then remains lit.

    5. Use the number keys to enter the first

code listed for your brand. After you

enter a valid three-digit code, the

    indicator light turns off.

    Note
: If you enter an invalid code, the

LED flashes rapidly for two seconds.

    Start over at step 3.

    6. Aim the remote at your TV and press

the ON•OFF key. If your TV turns off,

you have found the correct code.

    7. Enter the code in the box provided on

    this page for future reference.

    8. If your TV doesn’t turn off, repeat steps

3-6 above, entering the next code for

    your brand.

If none of the codes work or your brand

is not listed, use one of the Code Search

    methods to program this remote.

(See Code Search section on page 10.)

Your RCA Universal Remote is compatible with most brands (of infrared remote

controlled components manufactured after 1990). Below is a list showing some

of those brands. Check the enclosed Code List for a complete listing along with

their corresponding popular setup codes for quick and easy reference.

The "EU" appendix indicates this remote is for use with the European or UK models of this television. Your unit may require a different remote spec (USA?)

I'd steal your brother-in-laws! (Or at least check the remote model number on his to compare to yours...)

Philips 42pf7320a37 Plasma TV. Menu appears without being requested remotely or manually. Must select Menu Remotely (or manually) to regain screen. Screen stays on for a few seconds or up to 20...

Check that this is not caused from a stuck button, or a defective remote recalling the menu.

If it is not the remote, then you will probably need to replace the control board or the button assembly.

We bought a Philips TV (model : 42PF9966/79) three years ago. Intermittently we are getting a thin black horizontal line through the middle of the screen. What is causing this?

The model number you listed is bad. I think the last 2 numbers should be 37. But it sounds like a plasma tv. In that case the problem can be a bad connection from the driver board to the panel.
Take off the back of the set and reseat ALL of the ribbon cables on the far left and far right sides of the set. If this does not fix the problem, the panel is bad. This is not worth fixing. Buy a new tv.

Find a universal remote with a menu and four arrow keys, b/c Philips is out of the original. Or, you could call Philips and find the number for one of their authorized centers - a TV repair man may have a stockpile of them from cust's who abandon their TVs.

Magnavox Plasma HDTV Red light

I had a similar problem with my magnavox tv with the blinking light issue. Eventually it just didn't come one anymore. Looking at other forms they said the problem was a bad capacitor number 2074 located on the power supply board. When I opened my tv, I noticed that the capacitor was bulging and burnt up. I bought a new one labeled 2200uf 35v and did some solder to attach the new piece. Put the tv back together and it works like new. No more blinking light. I hope this helps.

60P8341 Rear Projection - Remote does not work

Your TV needs the part 313501707611 - it's the keyboard that's the cause of your problems - but here's the catch... Philips does not make that part anymore... they say that you need to either find someone to fix the keyboard (which I've had no luck on) or buy a new Television from them... hmm, a $2000.00 TV that needs a $20.00 part now becomes a plant holder in my living room because Philips wants us to purchase a new TV from them.
