Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

M230

Try deleting files to get at least 4mb of free space. Unplug any speakers or headpones (some speakers cause it to shut down when played at higher volume levels, probably due to impedence incompatibilities). Make certain you have an absolutely fresh battery in it. When it comes on after being connected to a usb port or after a battery has been replaced it uses probably more battery energy during its database initialization than at any other time. Even if the battery meter reads full, the draw might be more than a used battery can deliver. Once it does show you the regular song screen shut it down so it can save the initialization results.
